The East End Community Activist & Advocate Convention is tomorrow at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Mechanicsville Turnpike:

There’s a new team in town and it’s called the East End Community. The first team meeting is this Saturday January 24, 2015 at an event called the East End Community Activist & Advocate Convention.

Hosted by Rev. Rodney Hunter and the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, the East End Community Convention will begin the process of connecting and organizing the various individual and organizational activism and advocacy happening in the community in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life in the East End. The basic footprint of our new East End Team represents a diverse group of neighborhoods and business districts and includes portions of the 6th and 7th Districts of the City of Richmond, and the Fairfield and Varina Districts of the County of Henrico. An important goal of our East End Team is to blur the jurisdictional lines and concentrate on a regional approach to solving problems and enhancing quality of life.

Currently over 150 individuals, organizations and agencies have been drafted to be a part of our East End Team, and the draft will continue after the Convention. The link above offers a list of the current draftees for our East End Team.

Moderated by Rick Tatnall, Manager of Replenish Richmond, the first East End Team meeting will include comments and ideas from the following team members and consultants:

  • Lamont Bagby, Fairfield District School Board Member and Operations Manager for the Peter Paul Development Center
  • Reggie Gordon, CEO of the Eastern Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross
  • John Murden, Founder and Manager of Church Hill People’s News (CHPN)
  • Kathy Kildea and Joanie Freeman from the Cville Time Bank in Charlottesville http://cvilletimebank.com/
