Have you claimed your block yet?

The neighborhood response to My Block continues to be wonderful and overwhelming. You are all awesome for stepping up like this.
We were able to get a re-up on the pickup sticks from the good folks at the Clean City Commission last Friday, and have been distributing 10-15 sticks a day. We should be caught up with everyone by Friday.
If you haven’t claimed your block, what are you waiting for?

Can you volunteer to help keep the litter picked up on one block until September?
It’s simple: choose your block, and we’ll give you a trash pick up stick and put you on the map.

I’d love to, but I’m leaving RVA in May. Can I do it til then and pass the torch/stick on to someone else?
I just walked down the 3100 block of East Marshall and it looks great!
Hey — I did my block today — you mean the entire block, right? Like four corners, yes? We did it this morning, husband and pups helped of course. So satisfying — and interesting to see what folks leave behind/throw down/whatever. We have probably one of the cleaner blocks around and we still got a grocery plastic bag full plus two dog poops. Really? Not picking up after your dog? Just weird. Anyway, so glad to be part of this effort. Thanks again for making it happen.
Alli! You’re awesome 🙂
My idea of block for this like “the 2700 block of Broad”, both sides. It’s the most basic unit of measure that seemed workable, though some people have claimed the 4 sides of a block (because they’re 4X awesome!)
Oops! Will do other side of street tomorrow then, but don’t mind rounding the block until someone else steps up — which is part of the fun of it anyway. As an also, I really like folks who come to our ‘hood but don’t live here — workers, restaurant-goers, etc. — to see folks cleaning up. Am certain it will eventually encourage second thoughts when tossing cigarettes and they packages on the ground. I said eventually.
The upside of picking up trash is when you find a treasure, like a $5 starbucks card. 🙂
John, it would be great to get hi-visibiity logo T-shirts made for all those participating to give this program visibility and pop. I would fund mine and at 10 others, (free to those picking up trash etc). They also could be worn on other days for CH for organized clean ups and Alley Ralleys (3) this year, ( Mar, Aug and Nov).
I think it would help tie the community together in a very positive grass roots way that many folks would get behind and support.
BTW thanks for starting this project …..
