GlobeHopper closing at the end of February
After 7 years, the little coffeeshop at 21st and Main is calling it quits:
No one is ever ready to face this moment.
Significant changes in life circumstances since opening in February, 2008 have prompted us to exit at this time. This decision was especially difficult to make given that GlobeHopper is so much more than a coffee house, it’s part of our identity. The relationships amongst the team, and with those served, have made this community staple feel more like our family. It’s been a familiar comfort, and source of pride over these past seven years.
We as founders are indebted beyond words to General Manager and friend, Kimmy Certa. We attribute our successes and positive reputation to her incredible dedication – and credit her for keeping the mission of coffee, culture and community alive since both of our relocations outside of Richmond several years ago. We extend our deepest gratitude to all of the amazing GlobeHopper baristas past and present who joined us on this journey and thank all of the customers who supported the vision of GlobeHopper along the way.
We are proud to have provided our neighbors a special retreat, with delicious drinks, the most sincere and talented baristas, and an inviting and inclusive atmosphere.
It breaks our hearts to bid farewell.
For a limited time, the owners and landlord will consider sincere offers of purchase and lease. Direct inquiries to GlobeHopper’s FaceBook page through a private message or via email to erin@globehoppercoffee.com and jenn@globehoppercoffee.com.
This is heartbreaking.
I enjoyed Globehopper over the years and appreciate their contribution to Shockoe Bottom. I’m sorry to see them go but I know it’s no easy task for small businesses to stay afloat. I hope they can reorganize and maybe jump back in the pool someday. Until then, best of luck and thanks.
That is a crying shame.
No way of selling the business to keep it going under new management?
I wonder if CHAT would like to try to buy it, since they apparently can’t get the one at 27th and Broad? Anyone know how to reach someone with them?
CHAT = Church hill, not shocko bottom. So i doubt they would buy that.
Also, I bet everyone that is making comments that they are sad its closing havent been in months.
We tend to do that…. want places to be there, but dont support them regularly enough to keep them afloat.
Their Church Hill Academy is in Montrose, so maybe
The owner’s decision to exit from the business doesn’t say they weren’t doing well. What the statement does say is the owners have relocated away from the Richmond area…As a business owner, it’s very difficult to run a business and not be present. Hell, it’s difficult enough when you are there; I can’t imagine the struggle they’ve had. You can have the best manager and staff in the world but the owner brings something to the table that can’t be duplicated by another.
This business would be a great opportunity for another service-oriented, self starter to jump in and get it rolling. Best of luck to all involved.
CHAT = 601 North 31st Street, Richmond, VA 23223
So bummed to hear this!!
Update from next door– Three people in suits and, presumably, the owner, were going in to look at the place just now. Anyone have any intel on the situation? 😉
I’ve heard it’s going to be a new place called Kings Retreat
