Website: www.richmondinsight.comHarris Stilson’s job was driving the streetcar but his passion was photography. His images of Richmond in the early 1900s offer a glimpse into our city’s past seldom seen before. He captured momentous events such as African-American troops returning from World War I and every day activities including laundry wagons and cobblestone workers.
His great-granddaughter, Kitty Snow, has written three books, From a Richmond Streetcar, On the West Clay Line (Jackson Ward, Carver, & Newtowne), and Up & Down Church Hill (Images by Harris Stilson & Oral Histories from Church Hill, Shockoe, & Fulton) and will share images from the Stilson collection and stories of life in Church Hill when the streetcars ran. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
