ORIGINAL STORY 4/3
Matt Riggs has word that there will be a GrowRVA Chimborazo Farmers Market for real this year.
“I live in Church Hill and I was very disappointed to hear that GrowRVA’s Chimborazo Farmer’s Market was not going to come fruition last year,” says Matt. “So, back in December, I reached out to Karen Atkinson the owner of GrowRVA about how we can breathe some life into the project. We have been working on getting together farm stands, handmade goods from artisan craft vendors, food trucks & live music.”
The Chimborazo Farmers Market will be a monthly “pop-up” market on the 3rd Friday of every month through September, starting in two weeks. The market will be on the grounds at the Chimbo Playground & Park between 29th and 31st Streets at Grace Street.

YES! Thank you Matt for your work making this happen!
No problem, Kathleen. GrowRVA is very excited about bringing their faithful vendors to Church Hill!
Yay! Can’t wait!!
This is awesome! And while I did want it to be at Chimborazo park, I am kinda relieved it isn’t so people won’t try and mess it up like they did at last years attempt….
Hopefully this will turn into a weekly thing!
This isn’t a belated April Fools joke is it?? Stoked!! Love the location!!
No joke! Thank you, Kathleen. Location was my idea!
Three blocks from my place, woo hoo!
Awesome!!
This is great, great news. Thank you, Matt, for your work on this!
UPDATE:
The Chimbo Farmers Market has bumped back the first event date to May 15th.
How late is this going to run? The park is full to the brim already with the kids playing basketball on a Friday afternoon after school, is that going to be an issue? Seems a bit of an odd location since there is not a lot of parking there because of the basketball courts’ traffic. Live music??? Yikes – such a pretty and peaceful area, I hope it’s not too loud and esp. full of bass. It’s fun to hear all the kids playing, but live music might be too much. Some of us really enjoy sitting on our porches and enjoying the weather and peacefulness of the street (and watching some basketball).
Linda, it is very clearly stated that it runs from 5:00 to 9:00. It is one Friday a month. I don’t think it will be the disruption that you want it to be.
From what I have heard, GROW RVA once again skipped the important parts of seeking approval from the city. This is the same thing that screwed up their market plans last year.
I am pretty sure that there is a Friends of Chimborazo Playground group that neighbors can use to help bring a successful market to this area in a way that allays most neighbors concerns.
I just feel like the playground is so good for the bball players who use it so much, esp. on a Friday evening, don’t want to crowd them out. So glad they finally replaced the blackboard.
So this got canceled this month? Sucks. Hope this is not the continued cycle like last year. Keep faking us out… Not fun.
Several people walked down there to find… Nothing

Thanks!
Missed that
Hope to have an update on this by the end of the week.
Minimally looks like this won’t happen until June, and then may be a one-off.
