Suspects take eight year deal in killing of heroin dealer

Octavian Artis, Trevin Keitone Carter, and Shaquille Juwan Carter each took eight year plea agreements in last June’s killing of Jay Woods on 21st Street.
“Apparently, Wood was fairly well known to be dealing in drugs and the word got out that there was money,” Barry said after court. And because Wood fired the first shot, there was a legal argument that whoever fired at Wood was acting in self-defense, Barry said.

There was a blurry video that established only that Wood died from a dead-center shot to the chest from about 100 yards away.
Wow, 8 year plea bargain!
These fellows received a good deal but now we will all have to concern ourselves with their release since;
1.) They are now felons
2.) They’ll be relatively young when they are released
3.) They’ve basically gotten away with murder by not “snitching” on each other.
4.) Young+felon, + black =high possibility of no meaningful work.
The prosecuting attorney, apparently, placed very little value on Jay Woods life. Surely there was enough circumstantial evidence to convict these fellows of multiple charges in a trial but since Mr. Woods was a drug dealer and it’s expensive to have 3 separate trials, it was more expedient to offer a great deal and be done with it?
Hope these fellows don’t return to ChurchHill in a couple years when released, they’re gonna be tough to deal with. Maybe we should rent them an apartment in the prosecuting attorney’s neighborhood?
