Any of y’all seen a bear?

Stephen’s neighbor may have seen a bear near Oakwood Avenue and S Street:
She said she thought she was seeing stuff at first, because she couldn’t believe it was a bear, but then she got a better look as it moved from near the corner, past my house, and then jump the fence at the empty brick store front nearby.
I suppose it’s possible because bears are seen from time to time in the far west end of Richmond, and the Oakwood area of Church Hill is really close to a lot of woods and a stream that run through and around the cemeteries. […]
Are there any other reports of bear sightings around here in recent history?
There was a surfeit of skunks out that way a few years back…
I have deer that lives in my dead-end alley, adjoining forest in Fulton, so large animals can hide in this environment.
Were there any tracks? That would be the way to ascertain what she saw.
Is she sure she didn’t see a black panther 😉

Any missing picnic baskets?
RPD sent this out at about 1am. The bear has since been captured:
Black Bear Sighting in Mosby Court
The Richmond Police Department is advising residents and visitors in the area of Mosby Court to use caution as an adult black bear was spotted there early Tuesday morning.
The bear was initially sighted by a citizen at 11 p.m. June 29 in the 1800 block of Rogers Street. It was last seen just after midnight in a wooded area near the intersection of Coalter and Redd streets.
Police are asking citizens to keep their distance from the bear and stress not to approach it for any reason. Animal Control and the Game Warden have been notified.
Anyone who has a sighting of the bear is encouraged to call the Richmond Police non-emergency line at 804-646-5100.

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE?
They wander to find food if their natural environment is disturbed so, what could be chasing them out? And a female… any cubs I wonder? If there is one there has to be more near by. John Shuck and the volunteers cleaning up the cemetery need to be cautious since that is a dense forested area now near a creek.
My hope is that this builds into a legend. The bear that once roamed Church Hill. Our children will speak of this 500lb black bear tht climbed to the top of the Robinson theatre, then chased children in Libbie Hill park, and afterwards dined on pies at Proper.
@14 LOL, now *that* would make a nice neighborhood flag design 😉
It was in my driveway out near Gallmeyer Farms last Thursday, likely followed the creek that runs down behind Oakwood Cemetery and ended up over there. He was a good looking bear 2-3 years old, maybe 250lbs – would’ve made good steaks.
