I feel icky about the text that accompanies this post. Why does one need to qualify it by saying, “no matter how different we may all be”?
Forgive me if I’m overreacting, but I feel like there is an unintended subtext. Please consider this thought, neighbors.
As luck would have it my sister and 14-year-old niece were up from Florida visiting us here in Church Hill for the first time yesterday. After brunch at Millie’s, which they loved (of course), we came back up through the neighborhood walking around. They loved the view of the city from the Grace Street overlook and my niece adored the Fairy Garden. We live right behind the playground and we were sitting on our deck watching everyone play, and my sister said to me, “wow, this really is a neighborhood.” As ever, proud to be a Church Hillian!
I don’t think there’s anything ‘icky’ about the text. I love going by the Chimbo playground and seeing the diverse population of the Church Hill enjoying life together. Thank you for sharing Jessica!
