Demolished: 1329 North 24th Street

This photo of the house at 1329 North 24th Street was taken on December 5, 2015. The small, impeccably kept house was demolished sometime between then and the end of December.
This house was the last standing structure on the now-empty block at 25th and Nine Mile that has been long rumored to be the future site of a grocery store.

It was gone the week of Christmas. 🙁 It was such a handsome house. It could have been moved to another lot… or no one moves houses anymore? Plus it was left alone in all the plans. What changed? Anything new planned for this block?
Weird. This house seemed so dialed and decently kept. I hope some of the bungalows across the field stand the test of time. A On a happier note they demoed a gnarly squat on 20th st that really made my whole block feel greasy.
According to the city site, this is owned by Richmond Redevelopment & Housing….as well as 1323 and 1325 and 1327. That’s as far as my search went into the vacant spaces adjacent to this little lost treasure….”Building Vibrant Communities” by gentrification, at least in this instance.
I never really noticed this house until they put in the traffic circle at Nine Mile and 25th – the detours for the construction took me past it on a regular basis. I always thought the color scheme was charming and that it was remarkably well kept. Wonder why the tore it down?
On a slightly different note – this area really seems to struggle with preserving homes which are smaller, single story, or which have a more working class-type character or quality to them. What’s that all about?
City records http://eservices.ci.richmond.va.us/applications/PropertySearch/Detail.aspx?pin=E0000618035) show that it is currently owned by the housing authority, who purchased it in October, 2015.
Grocery Store or no, shame on them.
It was a cute house…but on an empty block in an area with more than its share of troubles. I would not have been willing to live in it and save it. Would you?
I remember the tiny houses that used to be behind the old gas station. Now tiny houses are the rage… why are we not building more of these smaller houses? They can be cheaper and easier to keep…
