A petition for a statue of Ray Dandridge

Right now there are two signatures, let’s blow this up.
Ray Dandridge is the only Richmond-native in the Baseball Hall of Fame. One of the best defensive third basemen in the history of the Negro National League and contact hitter who consistently batted .300 or better, Dandridge played seven years with Newark of the Negro National League and also spent eight summers in the Mexican League and 11 winters in the Cuban Winter League. After the color barrier fell, he played four years with the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate in Minneapolis, batting .318 overall and winning the American Association MVP in 1950.
I’ve always wanted to hear more stories about Ray. This would be great.
I’m supportive of this project but I’d love to hear more about the sponsor and why she feels motivated to pursue this action at this time.
here’s another bit about Dandridge…
When Dandridge was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987, he took a good-natured jab at the Hall’s veterans’ committee, which considers the induction of Negro League players and others who have long been retired.
“Thanks for letting me smell the roses,” he said. “But my only question is: What took you so long?”
