Developers to present Jefferson Avenue plan at UHCA meeting this week
A message from Stacey Moulds, Garden Manager at Tricycle Gardens Jefferson Ave Community Garden and long-time Union Hill Resident:
Please attend next Wednesday’s Union Hill Civic Association (UHCA) meeting to discuss an important agenda item:
A mixed-use commercial/residential project (address 2308 Jefferson Ave) is planned immediately adjacent to the Tricycle Gardens Jefferson Ave Community Garden.
The project will have a very visible impact along Jefferson Avenue as well as 24th Street due to its height, length and location.
It will directly affect the community garden as it will be built on the property line with the garden. Current plans are for the building to be 3 stories in height and to extend to all but the last 20 feet in the rear – a much larger building than any of the nearby commercial buildings.
Your Input is Critical in shaping the ultimate design of this project and how it will affect our neighborhood and community garden.
The Developers will be on hand to present their plan and vision for the project and are seeking input on their project design.

I had friends looking into it a year or so ago and got nowhere
This looks like a much needed project for that block. Will go a long way towards revitalizing the streetscape and will help to spur further re-development of the adjacent buildings.
I really like the inset porches along the second floor – really quirky, interesting roof angles/profile that seem reminiscent of some of the surrounding buildings. But I do think the could make the storefront and/or upstairs floor heights a bit taller. I guess it’s a tradeoff – would be more consistent with the neighborhood but might cast more shadows on the garden and surrounding buildings?
Walk by the space before you come to the meeting. It is NARROW. I don’t see how it will be usable unless they get some height on it thus casting shadows on the garden. As far as depth, I can’t speak to that, but I assume the nearby properties will hate that idea. Back to ye ol’ tradeoffs and spurring redevs.
