Apartments may closer for Marshall Street
03/18/2016 8:17 AM by John M
After almost 9 years of stop-and-start interest, Richmond Bizsense has word that development at 1903 East Marshall Street appears to be on again:
Shockoe Realty Ventures LLC recently purchased a 1-acre parcel at 1903 E. Marshall St. for just over $2 million, with plans to construct 178 apartments. The deal closed March 1 and included an already approved plan of development for the site.
The plan, approved by the Richmond Planning Commission in December, calls for a six-story, 200,000-square-foot building, with 130 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom units.

So at 6 stories will this block part of the Jefferson park view ?
If it isn’t bad enough with driving through the narrow street with parked cars, this will only double it up. And yet another bland brick and gray cookie cutter complex that is not inspiring nor vintage looking.
It’s nice to see something will be done with that vacant lot. It’s such an eyesore.
I think the thing that especially irksome about this sort of building is that no single part of it looks like the main entrance or really catches the eye. I think that because it’s so sprawling and repetitive and has no real focal point, it just looks like there’s no “there” there. Maybe if the building were broken up into several physically separate structures (or made to appear separated) they could do better? Or something…
@4 Lee, I agree but at the same time I hate this same-old same-old look and before long we will start looking like an urban project like Chicago or Detroit. So many of the same looking buildings so close together. We are historic Virginia known for it colonial architecture. Why not go that route?
Also, where in the hell is everyone going to park? It seems like no one is parking in the lots at Cedar Broad but up Marshall including the block this project is planned.
@6 The image appears to have a garage door near the center. Perhaps the potential residents will park in the garage. If the residents of the new building park on that section of Marshall, then the residents at Cedar Broad may change their habits.
@1 Really? This isn’t a tower like that stupid Echo Harbour so don’t even try to compare the two.
