Church Hill: A Changing Neighborhood
Church Hill: A Changing Neighborhood is a documentary drama that draws on archival research, oral history interviews with Church Hill residents, and contemporary newspaper sources to highlight the impact of redevelopment on Church Hill residents.
The play is written, performed and produced by students from the University of Richmond in collaboration with students from the Armstrong Leadership Program.
All are invited to the performance on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:00 PM at Armstrong High School, which will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Greta Harris, President and CEO of the Better Housing Coalition, and featuring Engaging Richmond team member Chimere Miles; Armstrong Leadership Program student Lydell Poag; University of Richmond student Melisa Quiroga-Herrera, and Armstrong alum Maurice Sydnor (class of ’65).

“Everything in the play comes from real life. Students crafted dialog using interviews, oral histories, public meeting testimony, even online comments from the neighborhood blog, Church Hill People’s News. The characters are real people too, longtime residents, the mayor, the builders planning to redevelop the public housing community Creighton Court.”
@3 Now that is a reason not to close the school, along with their cycling corps and other community involvement in the area.
