I see no issues with letting dogs on the courts. If this is indeed a dog friendly neighborhood, than it should be allowed. The sign that should be hanging here should read “clean up after your pet” just like everywhere else.
@1. I was wondering about the same thing. I didn’t look at the back of the sign to see if there was a sticker where it was issued by the city.
I also agree with @2…what’s the problem let the dogs letting dogs in there?
Just this morning someone was in there playing catch with their dog. If nobody is playing tennis, it certainly looks like a safe, fenced spot to allow the dogs to run.
I do not agree with #2 or #3, IT’S A TENNIS COURT. Unless you are playing TENNIS with your dog, they should not be in there. The turf will eventually break down from accidents that DOGS may have!
@4… I can understand if the turf on this court was new or even kept up at all, but in its current state nothing a dog does on it is going to make it any worse.
Also, I do play TENNIS with my dog, I throw a tennis ball over a net, he returns the ball, over and over agian. If makes you feel better, from now on I’ll send the ball to him using a tennis racket and keep score.
Do you personally play TENNIS on this court? Can you even tell if a dog has been there unless you actually see them playing in there?
Considering the state of Chimbo Dog park dog runs (mostly bare dirt, with healthy dose of glass and rocks thrown in), what’s wrong with playing fetch with ones’ dog in the tennis courts, providing no one else is using them?
People doing the wrong thing will always try and justify their actions. Whether it’s running the stop signs in the neighborhood because “no one is coming”, or walking dogs off a leash because “well my dog is nice”. People in this town always have some excuse or justification.
Please call the police If you witness the atrocity of a dog on the tennis court. If we’re going to remain a viable community we cannot let this type of thug mentality rule the hallowed ground of city tennis facilities.
Only dogs and my geese can get this much useless chatter.
John Murden, What exactly do you mean by people don’t read your blog because of “ass holes” posting???
The dog owners and dog walkers who are ‘offenders’ will pick up after their dogs. This cannot be said for the trash left by ‘party goers’ who have frequented this area. And what about the flasher? ‘Eyes on the courts’ need to pick their battles wisely.
People who don’t pick up after their pets are not going to obey the sign. The responsible pet owners who are thankful for a safe place to let their dogs run clean up their stuff and other deposits they find. The litter that people leave is immense and it is littering that is the problem. I don’t appreciate my tax dollars going to satisfy the needs of the few people who play tennis a handful of times a year. It is elitist of the people who put up the sign.
This is so very absurd!!!! It is ridiculous this has to be a topic of debate!!! I just recently moved to this area and in all my 40 years of tennis playing in some of the nicest clubs in the country and some lovely neighborhood parks, I have never seen dogs allowed to run freely on tennis courts. This infuriates me on two levels: as a seasoned RN, the idea that dog owners cannot recognize there is a potential health hazard being created by the invisible bacteria, parasites, and viruses left behind even after the responsible owners (as not all do) pick up their dog’s droppings is mind boggling. I have witnessed small children and toddlers on these courts…need I explain…toddlers fall down; they pick up objects and put them in their mouths…all you Moms,,,beware!!! We “elite” tennis players pick up tennis balls that roll into the fence which appears to be the area of choice by the dogs for urinating and defecating..must I wear plastic gloves to protect myself??? Hey all you elite basketball players; do you mind if the dogs poop and pee on your courts???? Can we send them your way??? As an Attorney, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT ENTITLES PEOPLE TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH LAWS THEY WANT TO OBEY!!!!!!!! The sign was placed by the city, I observed a city employee hanging it… for all those who want to think otherwise. If you are so incensed by the state of the 2 DOG PARKS specifically built BY THE CITY OF RICHMOND for dog owners and their pets using ALL TAXPAYERS’ MONEY…take it to the city. You want a fenced in concrete court to play fetch…GO FOR IT, I WILL SUPPORT YOU. Regardless the state of the dog parks does not justify reckless disobedience of the posted laws!!!
Is this an official city sign or was this posted by someone in the community?

It could be worse. There could be dogs on the–GASP–petanque courts!
The dog owners and dog walkers who are ‘offenders’ will pick up after their dogs. This cannot be said for the trash left by ‘party goers’ who have frequented this area. And what about the flasher? ‘Eyes on the courts’ need to pick their battles wisely.
Trish, If dogs go on the Petanque courts, signs are put up and dog owners get yelled at!

Responsible dogs I assume know the regulations of Richmond City Parks. No dogs allowed in the park at all. The tennis court is irrelevant. http://www.richmondgov.com/parks/parkChimborazo.aspx
Elites are people who make rules for other people but exempt themselves from any accountability or don’t think they have to follow them.
Research E. coli bacteria in dog feces and tell me you are doing everyone a favor by cleaning up after your dog.

@17-
“Regardless the state of the dog parks does not justify reckless disobedience of the posted laws!!!”
That sign references a law? Are you certain you’re a lawyer? Me thinks not…
BTW…your argument is absurd.
#17 since you seem to know it all, please tell me who do I sue for all the damage done to paw pads by all the broken glass?
Jamie,
What facts, logic, personal knowledge you are using to conclude RNJD is not a “Me thinks not..” a lawyer. Can you enlighten us all.
19. another neighbor
City owned park, lets see (pause) City of Richmond? If you hire a lawyer I think they could figure it out.
