New Little Free Library on Chimborazo

That’s great! Love these!
So what’s the excitement all about and purpose of these again? Not trying to be rude, I think I missed the discussion when these started. Is the public library not any good or something? Or is this just a new thing people are into?
Not every child has a parent that is responsible enough to teach them about free libraries and free museums. These ” little free libraries ” are usually in low income areas and are there to encourage reading for all ages. Sometimes the price of a bus ticket to go to a library is not in the discretionary budget of some families.
I have a good source for magazines such as National Geographic, Time, and Newsweek. These have turned out to be a big hit with school kids. They can read them, make art projects and one little boy said he decorated his room with the maps enclosed in N.G. He likes to look at them at night and imagine he is on a trip!
So it’s not just books that can enliven a person! If you are at a yard sale and see a few childrens books or good magazines, please buy them and put them in one of the Little Free Libraries.
THANK YOU!!
I’m semi-responsible for the one at WPA. We put it up as a nice extra social peace for that corner. it’s not a replacement for the real library at all, but more of a way to share books out for me – my shelves are totally full at home 🙂
Jean and John, totally agree. And I’d add that the East End Library (is that it’s formal name?) is doing great things and can use support. And that the “library from the future” on Libby Mill is great as well, esp for kids, if you can get there. Yay Richmond, for library abundance!!!
The LFL at Chimborazo and E Leigh St has been emptied and refilled (by neighbors other than the ‘steward’) twice since the picture was taken! Thanks, neighbors!!
double YAY!!
