Liberty Public House opens Saturday
The Liberty Public House on 25th Street in the newly renovated East End Theater will be opening Saturday at 9AM.
Described as “a family friendly dining experience in the historic Church Hill district”, the new restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The very accessible menu features a wide range of offerings (with vegetarian/vegan, and gluten-free), and includes both a kids menu and a full bar. The ABC license is being processed, they hope to have approval on that for early next week.
Liberty Public House will start with soft opening hours of Saturday/Sunday 9AM-9AM, Monday-Friday 11AM-9PM, with brunch available from 9AM-2PM on Saturday and Sunday. Once they get ABC, the regular hours will be Monday-Thursday 11AM-10PM, Friday 11AM-11PM, Saturday 9A-11pm, Sunday 9AM- 10PM.
The Liberty Public House is being opened by Amy Foxworthy, Josh Carlton and Chip Zimmerman, who also own The Mill on MacArthur in Bellevue.

The Hill Cafe is an interesting price comparison because they’ve been up here so long, but their prices have kept up with their own rising food and labor costs.
It looks to me that the folks at Liberty have priced themselves very comparably. They both have a $10 burger, both have $16 shrimp & grits. Liberty’s crab cakes are $16, they’re $22 at Hill Cafe.
Entrees at Liberty are priced $14-17, entrees at Hill Cafe run $13-22.

@2 John… guess I haven’t noticed the price hikes since I don’t usually purchase the seafood or high end fare. I often buy their Blue Plate specials. Use to buy their blackened with crumbled bacon and blue cheese sirloin steak but they took it off the menu 🙁
Re Photograph… looks unfinished inside. Never have liked the industrial look.
Welcome to the neighborhood. Now we don’t have to trek up to MacArthur Ave to enjoy your food. Checked it out last night and it was really good.
Re 2, 3, 4 – We tried them out last night and the prices seemed reasonable considering the portions, which were comparable to or somewhat larger than hill cafe. I would point out that they had a lot of small plates/snacks that were very reasonable, and probably large enough to make a light meal out of, based on our server’s comments and the size of the things we did order.
My impression was that on the whole it *felt* more affordable for the quality and quantity than some of the other neighborhood restaurants, even though the prices were technically about the same. Will also have to wait and see if serving size stays consistent or goes down.
Oh, and: They also had a kids menu, prominently placed, which I think no one else has/does.
I agree with Lee, portion/price seemed good (I now have a nice lunch waiting in the fridge), and as a parent, it’s nice to have a place that isn’t just “okay” with kids, but gladly welcomes everyone in the family. We were one of five families, and the staff were nice to our kids, even when loud. It’s nice to go out as a family without being worried we’ll be imposing (and without depleting our wallet).
A word to the wise, don’t drop off your umbrella by the door of the pub. Someone stole mine and a friend’s while we were having dinner tonight.
