Primaries for newly drawn 4th Congressional District are Tuesday

The next elections scheduled for the City of Richmond will be a Democratic Party Primary election and a Republican Party Primary election on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, to nominate candidates that will appear on the ballot in November for the office of recently redrawn 4th Congressional district.

The polls will be open from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

Jim Nolan at richmond.com has a good write-up on the candidates:

Five-term Henrico County Sheriff Mike Wade is squaring off against Chesterfield County resident Jackee Gonzalez for the GOP nomination.

State Sen. A. Donald McEachin, D-Henrico, and Chesapeake Councilwoman Ella Ward are seeking the Democratic nomination. Ward was the Democratic candidate who lost to Rep. J. Randy Forbes, R-4th, in 2012.

According to VPAP, McEachin has a huge fundraising edge over Ward, having raked in $104,802 to her $9,850.

The boundaries of the 4th District changed when a federal court ruled in October 2014 that the curious boundaries of the 3rd Congressional District need to be redrawn, as the the majority-black district inequitably isolates the states’ black voters.
