Church’s is a haunt of the past when there were more of them and they served quality food. There was one in Norfolk I visited regularly over 30 years ago and loved their biscuits, fried okra, and the pickled jalapeño you got with the meal. I ate at this location only twice. The chicken was dried out, small in size like pigeons, and overpriced for what you got. I think its day in the sun has passed. I feel sorry for the employees but they did the right thing.
I still buy fried chicken from the market (Farm Fresh) but get it right at noon when it is fresh for the lunch crew. Good size pieces and you get an equivalent of a whole chicken for $6.99
Nasty as piece of shit should of been closed…the employees were unprofessional. The restaurant was not sanitary and the food was down right DISGUSTING and sometimes old and not to mention they had no plastic wear at one time ..smh GOOD THING ITS CLOSED…YUCK YUCK YUCK..
I had forgotten about Bojangles, which I also liked when I worked in that area but not enough locations (only 2) in Richmond to make them convenient. Believe only one Golden Skillet left in the area also?
Bojangles has been building all over Richmond lately. There is one at Laburnum and Nine Mile now. A new one opened on Staples Mill too. One opened on Midlothian Turnpike near the Boulders a few months ago.
@18 BAF, sounds great but nothing close to the Church Hill area – as nothing comes to our area. Why? Because people don’t want progress in their back yards.
@20 Kay9 – I am referring to the backwards mentality of people who always complain NIMBY when it comes to building anything that would benefit the financial stability and structure of the Church Hill, Shockoe, and surrounding areas.
@21 I don’t think the drive to Nine Mile and Laburnum is that arduous a journey. 5 minutes maybe from my home near 25th and O. I would consider it close.
Looks like the rats finally rebelled and shut them down.

There is a rat infestation. Employees spoke out about it in secret to the news channel.

This location was always so shady….
I recommend Big Herm’s Kitchen in Jackson Ward if Lee’s is too far. Real fried chicken for a fair price.

I am glad to know that.

Thank God. Nasty with a bunch of rude employees and managers who didn’t have a clue and didn’t care.
Golden Skillet in Sandston is really solid if you’re looking for a substitute. And Bojangles, of course.
They couldn’t handle the competition from “Chix Land” across the street.
@Tyler – I have the *best* memory of the sandwiches at Golden Skillet on Jahnke Road when I was kid. I see a visit to Sandston in my near future.
@15 Chris, isn’t Chix Land also closed?

@19…Will you be offering up YOUR backyard to build a Bojangles?

@23 BAF,,, true. I just don’t ever think about Nine Mile Road. I never travel in that direction or have any reason to.
For you it is close.
