Man shot near 29th and P Streets
06/27/2016 5:52 PM by John M
richmond.com has word on a shooting this morning:
Police received a report of a gunfire at about 10:18 a.m. near the intersection of N. 29th and P streets, police said. Shortly after responding for the gunfire report, the victim of that shooting arrived at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, said Richmond police spokeswoman Koury Wilson.
@#2 That comment, which one can see over and over here and elsewhere means what? That shootings, like the heat of summer , come and go in a cycle? Is making the comment meant to show that one is in the know, and jaded? If so, I find it kind of gross. If there is another meaning there, I’m sorry to say i’ve missed it.
This is the second recent shooting in that area. It’s appalling. There is no right weather for shooting in these kid-crowded little streets. Beyond the act itself– attempted murder- It is so dishonorable, from any angle, to put children at risk in such a way, or to stand and call it normal.
I’ve been in the east end for 35 years and this is the worst it has been in a few years. I hope Richmond doesn’t go back to it was in the 90’s. Lord knows
@Dubois2, It is a sad fact that shootings do go up in the summer and it is appalling. I’m not sure if it is, but this years does seem worse than recent ones.
@dubois2- are you blind to the fact that we live in church hill? A known violent area? It’s not violent enough that it is scaring people away, but to some other areas of younger adults (late 20s-30s), this area is worse. It’s great news that companies and indiviuals have been coming up here and revitalizing the area. We now have great food and house values have gone up tremendously over the past few years. But this is still a very violent area. There is still a very poverished area on the northeastern side of Church Hill. Most of the alphabet streets are still not a safe area to walk around in at night. It is a known fact that crime is higher in poverished areas. My lawn mower was stolen 2 years ago. I don’t walk my dog outside without carrying for personal protection. Neighbor’s house was almost broken into a few months ago, but the neighbors behind us on 27th street saw a man trying to enter the backdoor and called the police. Suspect was apprehended. There is no excuse for murder, attempted murder, robbery, or any other sort of crime. But it does happen. Even in wealthier areas.
No one stands by here and calls it “normal” to the fact that this area has a higher concentration of crime. We are all disgusted by it. There is nothing we can do except keep revitalizing the area to make it better. We can’t go around being a vigilante. It’s too bad batman isn’t real and can’t patrol the streets here. The police are out in force. I don’t go a single day without seeing 5-6 police officers. Which I feel is great. They can’t all watch the whole neighborhood at once 24/7. I’m sure half of the crime doesn’t even get reported.
I’m sure this year seems like there is an increase of crime in the area because we have all been watching the news. And all the news reports is crime. Mass shootings, police officer shootings, terrorist attacks in other countries. So we are all sensitive to it because it is in the back of our minds.
Did anyone hear the super loud gunshot on Monday night around 9pm or so? It was the closest one I have ever heard to 500-600 block of 28th street.
@28th Street Resident,
I don’t think folks are blind to the fact that Church Hill is a known violent part of the city. I have lived here for a while, and seen my fair share of assaults, shootings, overdoses, and what not. So, your comments are givens. I appreciate Dubois2’s outrage.
Apart from, and/or in addition to saying “”Summer time and shootings go up, happens every year,” we also say to each other, to the shooters, to the drug dealers, and to whoever is making Church Hill a dangerous place, “Not acceptable, we can do better.”
