Cars rifled through on 28th Street
07/14/2016 8:07 AM by John M
From Phillip:
While walking the dog this morning I noticed my neighbor’s car light was on. In addition, several cars on the block had one or more car doors ajar. I got in touch with several neighbors and sure enough, someone had gone through their vehicles. One car was missing an owners manual (maybe they have value on the street?). Please be sure to lock your car doors and if you have outside cameras, point them towards the street to capture footage.
What block of 28th street?
600 Block of N 28th
Left mine unlocked last week on 33rd – nothing taken but definitely rifled through.
This happened to us last week on 34th, car was left unlocked and both doors were left open when I went to work the next morning. This seems to happen constantly, as this happened to our other car the one time we left it unlocked this winter.
My security camera has a group of four young men checking cars (on two seperate dates) and their images have been turned over to the detectives from RPD. This was two weeks ago. All young, black males cruising the neighborhood on bicycles on a Saturday afternoon. Later that night they went into cars on Grace and around 28th.
I guess as long as they’re not shooting/mugging people….?
Keep Th ceiling light turned OFF. Wont be able to see if it’s dark. Better yet always double check your doors.
I caught them in the act last night on 27th st, they were in four of my neighbors cars around 11:30 last night. Four young kids and one was on a bicycle. Told em to get out out of the cars and they went running heading towards 26th st. I think I got to them before they could grab anything because one neighbor said nothing was stolen.
It happened in the private condo parking lot lot beside Proper Pie last week as well.
I’m blown away by the amount of people commenting that this has happened to them. Lock your cars people!
Someone threw a car owners manual in the vacant lot I take of on 600 block of North 29th Street about a week ago. I thought it was trash so I tossed it (it was for a newer vehicle). Might be related to the incidents posted above.
Interesting comments about the car manuals – I am thinking I will not leave mine in my car anymore. I also have a soft top which has been slashed before (not related to these recent incidents). I had considered NOT locking my doors since I don’t leave anything in there anyway and would rather them just take what they want without slashing my top. Does anyone leave their doors unlocked for this or a similar reason?
I’m at 27th and E. Broad and mine was broken into last week – no damage. The glove box was sorted through and the only things they took were some packages of crackers and a pair of Minions gardening gloves I bought for my 3 year old nephew. Weird.
All they have to do is copy the VIN to get a new key made….. Requires absolutely no breaking into vehicles.
These are bored kids with nothing better to do.
It boggles my mind that these have no respect for other people’s property.
Every time that I leave for work and see someone look at my empty house I get anxious. Which is almost every day.
My car was rifled through, and Cds were stolen along with money in my ashtray, but nothing was damaged, and the driver’s door was left slightly ajar.
I am usually very vigilant about locking my doors, but I must have left the car unlocked.
I live in the 3400 block of Broad and just wanted to apprise people about it and reiterate to please keep your doors locked like I must not have. 🙂
