Buchanan School (1914 + 1964)

I missed it when Nicole Kappatos posted a neat photo of Buchanan School back in February. The top image shows the Buchanan School the day before its demolition.
The bottom photo is from the 1914-1915 Annual report of the Superintendent of the Public Schools for City of Richmond.

This was a beautiful building. Richmond is always demolition happy in favor of either nothing or nothing remarkable.
Your 1952 expansion picture is of George Mason. Those houses in the background were at 28th and O.
@Cadeho – good catch! I’ve pulled the photo & will repost as GM ES.
I was told as a child that they demo the school to build what they called the vidock/viaduct to connect churchill to MCV. We had no floodwall and the James River would rise pass Broad St.
