Made in Virginia: Flavors only found in Richmond today on USA Today gives a good round up of the city, with good words for Stroops, Dutch & Co, Metzger’s, The Dog and Pig Show, Sub Rosa, and The Roosevelt:
Have you been to Richmond, Va. recently? Arrive hungry. Virginia’s capital has long been a destination for good grub, and in recent years, the dining scene has catapulted onto the national stage. Beyond salty ham biscuits, pimento cheese and other classic staples of the Virginia larder, Richmond has become a destination for great eating with a bumper crop of homegrown culinary concepts.
I guess one question I have. What is going on with The Hill Cafe ? It is a Church Hill staple itself and use to have its own accolades but, within the past 5 years or so, nothing…nada…zip. I am wondering, if they don’t even warrant a mention, what is their future like? For us, we are not interested in trendy foods but good old southern comfort fare. At least one of our regular haunts near our mountain retreat got a large full page plus writeup in the newspaper last week – Gertie’s Country Store in Vesuvius, VA.
