Vandals tag Morrissey sign
09/30/2016 10:28 AM by John M
From a reader in Montrose:
I saw it this morning on my way to work. He has pissed off a bunch of people in Montrose by putting up signs in yards without permission, in vacant lots and yards of empty houses, and in public rights-of-way. And in Henrico because apparently his people don’t know where the city boundary is.
I’ll go out on a limb and say the person who did this likely lives in the house on Cedar St that is spray painted with the same message calling Morrissey a pedophile… but maybe it’s just a coincidence.
I’m not saying the house on Cedar wasn’t responsible for it, but everyone knows Morrisey’s back story…anyone could have done that. One of my kids goes to school with one of his kids and they always tells me whenever he is on school grounds because they know how skeezy he is. I repeat, my 7th grader knows to steer clear of him. Note to Self…find out where my 7th grader was last night?
Does write in capital letters too much.
Signs in the public right of way are illegal, and can be removed by any citizen who chooses to do so.
@Brett Architects write like that lol
Dang Pete, you putting up Lawrence Williams for this? Would be the most interesting thing that he’s done
People sure do love to bring down a winner instead of lifting themselves up.
Winner? In what kind of contest is he in any way the “winner”. Also, I do not think it is even possible to “bring him down” to any level lower than he has already lowered himself-with no help from anyone else!
People may not like Morrissey for a variety of reason but to say he is not a winner is simple absurd.
Overturned his disbarment for one example of winning. Morrissey won a 2015 special election to Virginia’s House of Delegates, while in jail. He has lobbied for the restoration of felons’ voting rights, and won, defended residents in myriad of court cases, and won.
A Christopher Newport University poll last month showed Morrissey leading by 12 points. Several other polls have shown him ahead as well in five or more districts. He also has spent a fraction of the money as other candidates.
So that qualifies as a winner to me. You may not like Morrissey for all the history that we are all aware of, but that does not change the facts that he is probably going to be a winner again and become Richmond’s next mayor.
This is Melissa, CBS6. Where is this sign?
Melissa, the sign is on Government Road, near Rawlings St,
It was taken down sometime today.
Having brought trouble into his own life and survived it does not make him a winner. A survivor, sure. A winner no.
I wouldn’t want someone with his apparent utter lack of judgement and self control to be in charge of anything I guess.
Richmond appears to be walking a line between becoming a city with so much positive going on that there is widespread uplift, and becoming a total mess.
Someone who gets 17 year old girls pregnant, punches lawyers in court (do I have that right? Really?), and on a lesser note, takes illegal sign install to new heights, is not someone I trust to walk us out of the financial mess at the city that threatens to make life more difficult and expensive for all of us.
Winners get legislation enacted on their constituent’s behalf. The sad fact is he has not brought any legislation forward to help his constituents that he supposedly “fights for”. You can be a fighter, but if your main responsibility is to enact legislation that you think will bring a better community he has really missed the mark. I don’t recall any legislation that had any positive impact on schools coming from the Morrisey camp.
On top of that, look at his commercials – he not only panders but basically tells felons he will do their voting restoration for FREE. How do election laws allow that? Basically… “come to me, I will get your rights restored for free, and then go vote for anyone you want (but I did provide the service FREE)”. He isn’t winning votes, he is paying for them.
I wonder which mayoral candidates other than Joe have gone house to house in the city’s poorest neighborhoods asking for votes?
I heard an ad on the radio today from one of the other candidates – that radio spot is the closest he will ever come to the poor side of the tracks.
The powers that be are in total denial about the true state of the city’s residents. Gentrification is only going to go so far before it runs smack into class division.
All the ‘cluck-clucking’ of the political chickens over Joe’s behavior reminds me of how the city’s rich and powerful shunned Elizabeth Van Lew at the end of the Civil War.
I can guarantee you that Joe knows where a lot of bodies are buried, which is why the status quo is so eager to throw mud his way.
They should check the bottoms of their shoes…
The fact that going door to door in poor neighborhoods -or any neighborhood- is seen as a reason to vote for someone for mayor rather than their track record and their policies is truly disheartening.
That someone wants my vote does NOT necessarily mean I want to vote for them. Perhaps they simply see me and my vote as a means to an end. For them, not for me.
I want a good mayor, not a pat on the back, and that means looking for someone who has shown character, ability to lead, good judgement, ability to work well with others to make progress for all.
