COLD CASE TUESDAY: Donald Harris
This week’s COLD CASE TUESDAY from the RPD is a local one:
As we approach 16 years, we ask the public to provide any information about the murder of Donald Harris.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2000 on Jennie Scher Road near Gilleys Creek, victim Donald Harris was found dead in his vehicle by a Richmond Police officer.
Harris, known to his family and close friends as Donnie, left his home at the 2000 block of Williamsburg Road to make a purchase at a restaurant at the intersection of Williamsburg and Government Roads. He left his home at approximately 8:30 p.m. and was believed to be abducted and killed before his body was found by a Richmond Police officer only 27 minutes later.
“The persons responsible for this heinous crime abducted and killed the victim near his home. There were numerous people who saw Donnie Harris in his vehicle with at least two other individuals,” said Detective Joseph Fultz. “These persons are possibly responsible for this terrible crime and are suspected in numerous other crimes. The family of Donnie Harris wish only for closure and justice in murder of their beloved family member.”
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Joseph Fultz at (804) 646-3929 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
In 2000, there were 17 killings in the East End, and 72 for the entire city.
Hmmm… in a car. People saw two other people with him. I am almost willing to bet, like Richmond police seem to have a habit of, they did not do fingerprint dusting to see about getting hits then, or now? I know in the past they have been negligent of this with stolen vehicles, even if there are DNA evidence left behind (food bags, drink cans, cigarettes, et..). It happened to us a couple times and on one incident, only able to apprehend the thieves because the car was found in Hanover country where “they” did do fingerprint checks and captured the culprits who got 30-years.
This was my brother. I don’t believe the police did what they were trained to do that night. My father & my oldest brother went to the impound lot where the car was being held & found the bullet laying in the floor. Shoddy police work. Still haven’t found the killers.
Hey James your brother looks like a guy which I never knew his who worked at lakeside vending company then left and went to work at I believe advance auto or auto zone
