Be mindful with your holiday packages

A video from Marshall Street purporting to show a package thief is a good belated reminder to take precautions with your holiday deliveries.
I had a package stolen last week, be careful
We just installed a ‘Ring’ doorbell at our house. Highly recommend. The security features are pretty cool.
Someone opened up my Christmas cards, but all they got were season’s greetings.
I’ve had a couple packages gone missing off 25th.
Does the burglar picture really need to be a black man with a gold tooth?
Re: packages… I can’t stress enough, as with many public announcements, to either:
1) Have the sender request a signature so the package is not left at the door.
2) Have them shipped to your work address.
3) If you are not home during the day, ask a neighbor to pick them up or have them delivered to a friend or family member (we all should be friends with our neighbors).
4) Rent a PO Box or a Box at a UPS store.
Rebecca Parker – looks like a white dude to me?
Weird that it changes.
Rebecca Parker dang, def looks darker when it’s small like that. Trust me in that I attempted to avoid just that.
@5 Rebecca, I did not take it as a black person (or any person in particular). It is a burglar who is shadowed being in the dark.
Rebecca, if the shoe fits…….
I strongly recommend “Nest” cam’s:
Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I3I9L8M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_L9Tuyb5ETMKZG
I’ll 2nd that the Nest cameras work very well, and are incredibly easy to set up.

Is this better?
I have a general question about security cameras. Is the point to make them visible to deter package theft, or is it to help catch the thief later? I’m more interested in deterrence so wondering if they’re worth it.
2500 Block Marshall – We had 6 packages taken Tuesday evening within a 15 min span; even with a UPS my choice profile preference and note that we do not release without signature. UPS said that Amazon and Target don’t require signature authorization so they just leave the packages.
Being able to be home and receive packages for folks is a simple income opportunity for someone in the area.
It’s essentially why we have a PO BOX, but that has it’s own (smaller) frustrations.
Shockoe Valley Market on 18th Street is a UPS Access Point; you can request that your package go there.
As the proud owner of a gold tooth or two, I’m offended by either rendering and the suggested alternative! (actually, wait, I don’t have any gold teeth…)
I’m on 25th as well and had packages go missing as well
I have never had any package sent to my doorstep since living in Church. They wouldn’t last five minutes! That is year round-
We had a package stolen during either our first or second Christmas up here. Been here 10 years. Haven’t had anything delivered to our house since. I either have it sent to my office or to my sister’s house.
Had our first package “issue” gently. Either lost in the mail or stolen. One item remailed express which showed up fine. The other was able to change address to work and that also made it in. If the packages were stolen someone ended up with a grill light and a double vinyl set of the music from Mad Men. Enjoy!!
@19 L… see, someone has stolen them right out from under your nose, literally 🙂
A little inconvenience can prevent a lot in the future.
