WPA Bakery under new ownership (sort of)

The popular and award-winning WPA Bakery is under new ownership (sort of).

Opened in the fall of 2012 as a spinoff from Ipanema Cafe by restaurateur Kendra Feather and baker David Rohrer, the corner bakery in Church Hill is now solely owned and operated by Rohrer. Feather this week sold her interest in the bakery to Rohrer for undisclosed amount.

“With the opening of Laura Lee’s, it was time to let go of WPA and simplify a little bit,” says Feather. “David was a longtime employee at Ipanema before we opened WPA, and I’m glad for him to finally be out on his own.”

David was awarded the 2014 Elby for Best Pastry Chef/Baker, and opened up WPA Bakery Southside in the summer of 2016.

Kendra Feather owns 4 restaurants in Richmond, Virginia. Feather opened Ipanema Cafe in 1998. Garnett’s Cafe followed in 2009, The Roosevelt (with Lee Gregory) in 2011, and most recently Laura Lee’s in September 2016. She was named Restaurateur of the Year by Richmond Magazine in 2013, and featured in The Virginia Table in 2015.
