Then and now on Broad Street

I’ve been more than slightly obsessed with the Richmond Commission of Architectural Review Slide Collection at the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries over the past few days. Here is a look at East Broad heading down the hill from 21st Street, with a few photos from the late 1970s to the 1990s.

I remember the 2000 block of Broad with those old houses, when we first moved to Church Hill. Believe at one time there was talk of saving it since they were old but true to form with Richmond, the city did nothing to fight to preserve them.
Unfortunately, as I have found with my research, this collection does not include North of Broad houses.. except the first block right off of Broad (300 block). Photo documentation, as well as general history, is a void when it comes to NOB.
