Shots, hit and run caught on camera on Venable Street (UPDATED)
UPDATE JANUARY 12, 2017 7:50 AM
Two more videos from James at 21st and Venable. No sound, but at the 11:56:18 timestamp you can see a car blow the stop sign and hit the car moving east on Venable Street. The driver of the fleeing car gets out as the vehicle slows, and heads south on 21st. Twelve seconds later a 2nd car blows the same stop sign, and then stops a block or so up for few seconds.

A security camera on Venable Street recorded the sound of two sets of gunshots and then man running just before noon today. No word on if there were any injuries or arrests.
From Jason:
Here is a video of the shooting near Venable and 21st that happened around noon.
You cannot see the actual shooting but you can hear it and see people running.
I was told that a car wreck may have preceded the shooting.
I don’t know if anyone was hit.
We were wondering what the deal was with those gunshots. There were lots of sirens right after. I wonder if the guy was caught.
There were three patrol cars at the end of the alley between 23rd and 24th on M Street about 10-15 minutes later. The police had one guy in hand cuffs. Not sure the arrest was related.
We need more cameras like this to record what’s going on and who is doing what. Please buy a container load of these cameras from China super cheap, and give them away to everyone. Network all the cameras to one central database so everyone can access the various camera views.
What?!^^^ lol
Robbie-we need to get rid of the problem. We already know what’s going on and where they live.
John
There was a very bad accident at corner of 21st and Venable. I’m not sure if there was or was not shooting? The car that was hit, hit the stop sign and made a lot of racket but there may have been shooting of some sort. I have video from 3 angles showing the accident. Passed on to RPD but I can send them to you if you’d like to post.
Video is much better than what you have posted
We live a half block from here. There was a pretty bad accident at Venable and 21st either just before or just after the shots. One car was stuck in the intersection and another rammed into the telephone pole next to Roaring Pines. I heard the shots and the crash, but couldn’t figure out the exact direction until, ya know, I noticed the crashed car in the street. It all happened too quickly not to be linked.
Police response time was less than 4 minutes. That’s pretty darn good.
By comparing times from our video to previous video with sound there is the possibility one of these fellows fired a weapon at the other. Thiat is incredibly sad and ridiculous! The accident was terrible but to shoot at one another thereafter is outrageous! Absolutely senseless! Too many guns, too many cowboys!
While living in the city has its draw-backs… guys, you’ve got to admit- the emergency services out here are pretty awesome.
Those two cars who saw it happen and just drove away… What the hell? Who does that?
All in favor of demolishing public housing, say “I”.
If y’all think concentrated housing for low income families contributes to this kind of activity, then step up, speak out, and oppose the 52-unit project proposed for the former Citadel of Hope on nearby Venable Street.
The developer is NOT the good old BHC of the 1990’s and early 2000’s we came to know and love in the East End.
Home ownership for working class families is NO LONGER their mission. New mission is how to use government grants for low income, high density, rental residential.
BHC has given up on helping working class families join the middle class by helping them buy their first home and build equity. BHC is hand-in-hand now with RRHA in building the cheap, concentrated rental stuff we all know does not work for raising folks up and out of poverty. That’s the new normal for BHC.
Call Greta Harris, CEO of BHC and tell her your concerns.
@ #9 Too many irresponsible gun owners. A gun can’t do anything on its own.
I see two things happening here that is both alarming and concerning.
.
The first, not a single person makes a proper complete stop at this 4-way stop, including the one in front of Roaring Pines where a lot of traffic is seen. (BTW, “rolling stops” are illegal). No wonder there are accidents.
.
Next, not a single person who saw the accident, nor anyone else driving by, would stop to help. That one person in the black car that hesitated, just sped past once they decided to drive between the two cars and over debris.
.
For those who said “nobody stopped”: with bullets flying, I’m not stopping
@16 Bryan Brodie. True, while it was happening. But for the many people driving up on this after the shooting, had no idea what was going on. All they saw was an accident and still drove by.
When did we find out where this person lives and how much money they make that we could decide A) they were low income B) that’s why they had a gun and C) that’s why they were irresponsible with the gun? Seems like road rage may be more of the issue here.
Do we even know if the driver or the victim &/ passenger of the hit and run was the shooter?
