Curious about the new Reynolds Culinary institute coming to 25th and Nine Mile?

There will be a community info meeting regarding the new J. Sargent Reynolds Culinary Institute on April 25th at 6:00 at Mount Olivet Church (1223 North 25th Street).
The development will include the culinary school, 11,200 SF for private restaurants, 50,796 SF for 49 apartments, and 7,800 SF for retail space. J. Sargent Reynolds Culinary Institute will anchor the culinary complex development.

Who are the apartments for? Is it student housing?
Yes! It will transform the area and the architecture is aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for the area.
I went to this event last night. The President of Reynolds was there, along with his fundraising staff, the head chef, and the director of the Reynolds Middle College program (which partners with adult ed to provide GED coursework and job training together).
Reynolds will lease the space from the developer and it’s part of the whole complex that is being funded by the Markels. Someone in the audience asked about the design of the building, saying they liked the renderings they’ve seen. The folks from Reynolds seemed to indicate they don’t have a lot of say in what the final building will look like.
I liked what I heard from the chef about their plans to partner with the horticulture department and grow some ingredients, and also the plans for activities that involve the community, with a stadium-style demonstration kitchen, selling some of the food the students prepare (they are known for their pastry training), and maybe having Saturday workshops for people to learn about nutrition and healthy cooking, etc.
The timeline is uncertain, but perhaps groundbreaking might happen in the fall. I’m a fan!
