Operation at 2300 Club suspended due to low membership

Not exactly sure when this happened, but it looks like the 2300 Club is kaput…
2300 Club Operations Have been suspended due to low membership. We are currently exploring other options for the space.
We sincerely thank past members and friends for all their support for the past 53 years. We had a terrific run and look forward to new endeavors.
Founded in March 1964 as a not-for-profit social club, the 2300 Club was a private dinner and luncheon club for residents of Church Hill and Richmond interested in the historic preservation of the area. The club moved to it’s present location in 1973.
With this, the area is in danger of losing it’s oldest continuous ABC license…
Too bad they are so severely restricted in what they can do with that property. But I certainly understand the concerns of the neighbors over noise, parking, etc.
That’s too bad. They were very nice people.
I would read a research piece on this…
I had never even heard of them. Maybe they should have advertised?
Did seem like a cool place. There was a brief mention at the bottom of this Richmond mag article.

They came around at a time when Richmond didn’t have many dining options and laws for serving alcohol were stricter. Now that Richmond is overflowing with dining options and delivery services, the private club dining model can’t compete with the Richmond of today. Perhaps it will be marketed for private events/receptions.
I’d love to see it as a private event venue, if nothing else. I’ve been to many events there over the years (wedding receptions, fundraisers, private parties) and they were all great.
Is it not offered as a private event venue anymore? I attended a wedding and reception there somewhere in the last 5-7 years.
Such a wonderful venue. Damnit
