Car ransacked, missing peonies, stolen orange bicycle
From Eric on the 400 block of North 27th Street:
Wanted to let people know that we had one of our cars broken into last night. It was ransacked but nothing stolen that we can see. Only a pair of sunglasses thrown into the street and broken. We did accidently leave it unlocked. Be aware and alert.

I don’t like to get on the complaining wagon as I love my neighborhood and I realize after living in suberbia for many years I have to adjust to the differences and I like this environment so much better. However I was so excited to see my peony have over 14 buds after three years of waiting.
At my age it’s sometimes the small things in life that bring joy. Someone decided to take most of those buds leaving me and my neighbors to enjoy a small prtion of what the plant was going to produce. Why?!! That was just mean.

My back yard was broken into (we have a locked gate) and two of our bikes were stolen. A blue magna mountain bike, and an orange beach cruiser by x-rated. That’s not a photo of my actual bike, but the only difference is theres no orange on my tires and I don’t have a basket.

TAGGED: crime
I had someone take the buds off my Peonies as well.
SMH! Been there push mower stole while I took a water break 5 years ago. Car broke into 2 times in 7 years!
City Of Richmond HAS to crack down on all this theft & robbery. I have been affected first hand with a home burglary & theft! Put some more cops on our streets. Get the presence out there. This is getting reallll freaking old.
Sorry about the peonies – that is really mean-spirited to do that. I guess maybe the thieves thought free mother’s day flowers?
James from Patrick Henry had a shrub and some flowers dug up and stolen a couple weeks ago. Folks are petty and mean.
We recently had two solar powered lawn lights stolen from our front yard.
I guess it could be worse.
Must be karma getting me back.
We are usually very diligent about locking our cars and what is crazy about this, the one time we didn’t, it was ransacked. When we first moved into Church Hill in 1999, things were pretty bad still with crime. We even had several cars stolen! Things calmed down and was feeling safe but more recently, started hearing gunfire again on a regular basis. There have had the porch thefts, break ins, vandalism, etc… escalating again.
So much gunfire lately – have been staying up way too late on the weekends, and it’s almost every weekend night now.
Thieves went through my unlocked car Sunday night. Decided against stealing my protest signs, my jumper cables, or the large box of books I was putting in the Little Free Library at Comm Hosp
Been here since 1968. In all those decades, we’ve had everything from jack’o’lanterns and Xmas wreaths stolen from the front of our house to garden tools from the back to a couple of break-ins that didn’t cost us much other than having to repair a window. Sadly, things are much worse now re these kinds of grab-and-run crimes; but this time of year– along with the holidays from Thanksgiving through New Year’s– have always been the worst. Be vigilant until it gets better after Labor Day. “Nosey neighbors” are needed in an urban environment. They saved us more than once, and we have reciprocated more than once… so get to know them.
@10 – Spot on Melinda. Know your neighbors and look out for each other. Do not be afraid to call the non-emergency number (804-646-5100) for anything. And let folks know that you’re paying attention to them – I’ve often walked outside and made phone calls while looking directly at potential miscreants. And guess what? Within one minute they almost always leave.
One car here, last night, at 23rd and Leigh St as well.
Hey, I live over on 23rd across from union. Somebody went through my car Monday night as well. They took 3 wrestling medals of my great grandfathers from the 1920’s. I know, I’m a dumbass for having them in my glovebox. But let’s catch this punk, yeah.
John, try calling around the local vintage shops, most of us buy things from people all the time- but none us are trying to hold on to anyone’s stolen family heirlooms. If that’s what’s happened you have a good chance of the buyer fessing up.
I think some miscreant has a device that can unlock electronic car doors. The device runs through a series of radio signals until it hits the right one and Voila! The car opens.
I had Best Buy install cameras, one is directly on my car and I can see it while I lie in bed at night. It has been effective. Nevertheless, I have found my car unlocked, even after I lock it several times over the course of the night. It has not been ransacked, yet. They can see the infrared lights on the camera.
