A tree is pruned at Libby Hill Park
From Coqui (Marion) Macdonald and Friends of Libby Hill Park
The local award winning tree care company True Timber has given the neighborhood a skilled and generous gift.
On a beautiful fresh summer Friday morning June 2, our number came up for the long talked about pruning of the Champion Elm near the View That Named Richmond.
A team of True Timber climbers and Arborist gave us a wonderful gift. Their skill and love of trees was a joy to watch. Someone commented that watching their skilled, artistry was like watching children playing – the giant ancient tree was like a jungle gym for the young men exercising their artistry, knowledge of tree biology and athleticism.
Our neighborhood owes a great debt of gratitude to these skilled tree care craftsman from True Timber and this Licklider team – Bryn Beck and Jesse Duling – Climbers ; Logan Hendricks – Groundsman; and Jim Licklider – Arborist/ Manager/Church Hill area. A particular thank you goes to Peter Girardi who was instrumental in making this event happen.
Church Hill Loves their trees. Needs their trees. We are a dense urban environment subject to the heat island effect, high tree mortality and air quality issues.

I have to assume these photos are doctored. No one is getting their super unique engagement photos taken anywhere in these shots.
A treat! A series of treats. That it was done, that it was done with such care, and that there’s such a series of photos of the work.
Ah, if we could only get some of those young, enthusiastic people to do something about the ghetto palms at the Richmond Hill overlook…
Hah @WarGibFA. I was wondering how many comments it would take before the ghetto palms/trees of heaven would be mentioned. At Jefferson Park, they’ve already blocked the view of one piece of exercise equipment and closing in on others. Both hills could use a serious bushwhacking. If there was a landscaping company that wanted more PR than they could handle with residual local business, they should “award” these two hills some attention/business. Nice Libby Hill got their tree thinned. In Jefferson Park, we just let the high winds and mother nature do it.
Good going on Tru-Timber and all those involved. I’ve hired Tru-timber several times – always professional.
In response to #4’s comment about Jefferson Park. The Richmond Tree Stewards have pruned many of the trees in the park over the past several years, including this past fall when we pruned the entire row of crepe myrtles at the top and the bottom of the park. The Tree Steward volunteers are not able to work on the steep hillside part of the park for liability reasons.
