Residents complain of mice, leaks at Church Hill House
08/08/2017 7:49 AM by John M
WTVR has a piece on resident complaints at the Church Hill House:
Diane Thomas used to be homeless and she said that finally getting a roof over her head meant the world to her. Over a year ago she moved into a Church Hill house and said she`s dealt with small issues since then.
But she can`t get past a mice problem that she said has gotten worse. And there’s also water leaking from the ceiling into her closet she said.
Yeah for the residents of Church Hill House! They’ve been puttting up with bed bug infestations, poor AC/heat and in-house dealers for years. The leaks and mice are just a few of the things that make living conditions deplorable there.
A lot of super nice people live in CH House. Retired and disabled folks living on modest/fixed incomes don’t always have the clout that market-rate tenants have–and they can’t easily up and move when living conditions become deplorable The residents deserve better from the owners/management.
Perhaps a little motivation to find a better place to call home is needed.
Mice problems have got to be addressed. Those filthy rodents can pass on diseases simply by walking all over the counters or on food. If the management won’t help, I say get these people some cats. Maybe not ideal, but at least those mice will be gone.
I saw the horrid conditions on the news report.
Society, especially greedy capitalist landlords, treat our seniors like they are less than third class citizens and no longer have rights, a voice, or the will to fight. Make these slumlords live a month in one of these basically condemned apartments.
It shouldn’t be the responsibility of the tenants to complain after the fact but the building owners to be proactive and do regular inspections.
How does the city or Health Dept allow this? I am sure water leads lead to black mold issues. Mice multiply by the hundreds and once in the walls, the only way to get rid of them is to tear out the walls because if you only fumigate or poison them, they will die in the walls and other hidden places to rot and smell. And their pee carry disease. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a serious respiratory disease transmitted by infected rodents through urine, droppings or saliva.
Meant to say seniors, handicapped, and financially challenged but I am sure you get my gist.
