Can you volunteer to count bicycles?

Can you volunteer to count bicycles? Help is needed at several locations in the East End.

From Max Hepp-Buchanan, Director of Bike Walk RVA:

It’s nearly September, which means cooler temperatures (maybe), lower humidity (hopefully), and our bi-annual bicycle and pedestrian counts (definitely!).

This September 12-14, we are looking for volunteers to staff 30 locations across the city over the course of 3 days. It’s a two-hour commitment and one that pays off bigtime.

Sign up here.

We’ve been doing this effort for about 4 years and our dataset is starting to reveal trends about the construction of dedicated bicycle infrastructure: if you build it, they will come (most of the time). As the City continues to build out the Bicycle Master Plan, more people are riding on the new bike lanes and calmed streets. It’s important for us to get baseline (before) data and then track the increase in use over time. It helps make the case for even more bike lanes!

I just need two hours of your time: 5 to 7 PM on September 12, 13, and/or 14. Please sign up here to help.

Thanks so much for your support.
