RIP Frances “Granny” Jones

Frances Jones, the first person to move into the Creighton Court public housing community back in 1952, who for 65 years remained a steadying force in a neighborhood that too frequently has dealt with upheaval, and was affectionately known to generations of Creighton residents as Granny, died Sept. 15. She was 95.

JONES, Frances “Granny,” laid down to rest September 15, 2017. She was preceded in eternal rest by her daughter, Doris; three sons, Ernest, David and Andrew Jones; two granddaughters, Patricia Hatcher and Lotonya Grant; and a grandson, Calvin Jones Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Calvin (Barbara) and Alpheus Jones; spiritually adopted son, Douglas Taylor (Diane); spiritual daughter, Mary Grant; 27 grandchildren, including devoted, Margo White (Steve); 32 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of people whose paths crossed with hers in life, including her entire Creighton Court family. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, 2301 Cedar St., on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
wow. 65 years in public housing. for some reason, i dont think public housing was meant for such a long term tenet. sad.
