Dedication of the Statue of Liberty (1951)

For this week’s #MonumentMonday, we’re looking at the Statue of Liberty in Chimborazo Park! Dedicated in February of 1951, this replica was purchased by what is now the Heart of Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America and gifted to the city. It was one of 200 identical statues dedicated across the country as part of the Scouts’ “Strengthen the Arm of Liberty” fortieth anniversary theme. #RVA #RichmondStories

Fascinating! My wife and I have run past this statue a hundred times or more. How the heck do you come up with this stuff?!

This miniature Liberty statue, was one of many that dotted the United States in the 1950s with few remaining today. Our own version has been repaired at least twice ensuring its survival.There was a dark background as to why they even existed, and deals with the Red Scare of the era.
