Tis the season for package theft

From Justin:
Thought I’d share the videos of package theft off my porch. Two separate incidents. First is 11/27 at 2am and second is 11/29 at 4:21pm. I’m on the 500 block of 26th.

I think fliers with this guy’s face should be posted everywhere.
If youre ordering from amazon, have your packages delivered to the amazon locker at farm fresh!!!
That hat and Nautica jacket should be pretty easily recognizable. Not that it would get you anywhere with the police if you happened to see the guy on the street in the exact same clothes.
I’m not saying the police are ineffective, but if they couldn’t take the time to get to that one guy’s stolen car within an hour, they’re probably not going to care about this either.
Okay, maybe I am saying they’re slightly ineffective.
The packages were not from Amazon.
You can setup your UPS and FedEx deliveries to be delivered to the back porch/door or somewhere out of sight that is readily accessible to the delivery drivers. UPS is excellent about following these instructions. FedEx is about 50/50, half the time they will leave it at my back door, half the time they let it sit right on my front porch. You can also set delivery times, but it cost a fee I believe, but it would be worth it if you have something valuable being delivered.
He looks so familiar – maybe hangs out in the block of 25th just north of the police station?
Too bad we can’t get a better look at his face. Perhaps one of those “smart doorbells” (motion activated) would provide a nice mug shot. Good luck. I hope you catch Mr. Scrooge.
Wow! I got goosebumps watching this! Unbelievable! How casually he stole those packages.
I’m pretty sure this was the same guy I saw stealing some random stuff off my neighbors back porches last week. It might’ve been stuff they were throwing away? It was about 8AM on tuesday. I asked him to put it all back and I wouldn’t call the cops, he apologized and returned everything, then ran off.
Wow…just wow.
Wait, why did he hide the white box next door?
I’ve lived in Church Hill for seven year. I have ALL my mail delivered to my work address. Always. I take zero chances. There are waaayyy too many bored unemployed bums in Church Hill that do this. Not saying that everyone has the ability to receive all mail at work but if you do, its a no brainer

We had another package taken from 400 block of N 23rd St just before Thanksgiving. This is the third time. We have the carriers toss them over our locked fence. This being said, only works ( and to be fair it had been doing great) if the carrier pays attention to the 8 1/2 X 11 laminated sign attached to our mail box. This one wasn’t from Amazon either. Fed up with it though. I think the lack of regular carriers contributes greatly to the problem.
Thief looks like he had already been “shopping” when he rolled up on this house. Good camera shot. Can’t police use this to arrest him if they find him? Sad
@1 Great idea E! I think that would make these horrible thieves less comfortable walking around if they think they would be readily recognizable. They might not know they’ve been spotted on CHPN and that people are looking out for them, but the flyers would certainly let them know that. We shouldn’t have to be so defensive about package thieves. I like this, it’s more offensive.
I have all my packages delivered to my workplace. I haven’t had anything delivered to my house in 3-4 years. I also live on a great block and when I see packages sitting outside and know that my neighbor may not be home or back in time, I will go pick them up and leave a note. We’ve had one package stolen – that was enough.
Had 2 amazon packages delivered the same day and were both stolen that day. Luckily, Amazon was nice enough to reimburse me the total amount. Matt NanevilleHakuna MatataJoseph R. Faustino
I will happily accept packages at a different address and deliver to you same day for a small fee. Feel free to reach out to me.
People like this man make me so angry/sad… why does he think he deserves something he didnt work to pay for?
Same guy walks 33rd St a lot going through trash cans.
Had 1 taken from my porch that same day.
#20 – ?????
I walked by your house last night about 2 am and noticed that the lights were on but again a package was sitting on the porch in plan sight about a foot from the sidewalk. Are you just trying to entrap people now?
——>EIN: Truly a ludicrous comment. [“Hey, Mr. Grocer –why’d you set those candy bars near the checkout. You tryin’ to entrap me?!”] Geeeez . . .
Im thinking about doing that. Thanks!!
@24 / ein
That’s slightly creepy. But yes, we purposely left a package outside with a note inside to please stop stealing packages.
-justin . Nothing creepy here. I’m a close neighbor and made an observation on a public street on my evening walk.
-SA Chaplin. Look below, I wasn’t wrong. Clearly not so Ludacris.
Kathryn McCann exactly. We found out the hard way last year about theft…several packages were ‘lost’
I’ve used the boxes and also have the abity to get stuff shipped to work.
You can also sign up for informed mail delivery so that you get an email about what packages are scheduled to show up that day.
Pretty sure leaving notes saying please don’t steal isn’t entrapment, either legally or morally.
We had to track down packages shown delivered because the carrier delivered them to the wrong house.
Everyone should know their neighbors and if any are home during the day, have them take them in for you or, as other said, delivered to your work. I had all of our valuable packages delivered at work, no problems.
That said, even on the 400 block of N 27th, a neighbor has already had 2 packages stolen from their porch within the past week or so. ‘Tis the Season.
With Amazon Locker, you can receive your Amazon packages at secure locations. Amazon Locker locations can be found when selecting a shipping address during the checkout process or when adding a new address in Your Account. There is a Locker a Fresh Market.

perhaps drastic measures are at hand.

@Neighbor, Amazon Locker is wonderful. However, it’s not always available.
@36 there is an Amazon locker right down at Farm Fresh at 25th and Main, and that store is open a lot of hours, seven days a week.
The amazon lockers are great IF you only order small items. Amazon needs to add slots that will accept larger items.
