Hope and persistence drive the Jefferson Avenue Transformation
Jefferson Avenue can be safer, healthier, more environmentally friendly and economically vibrant; or at least that is the hope from the Jefferson Avenue Task Force. This group of citizens feel a true passion for the cause and they are working hard at not just making presentations, but doing research, organizing and sharing information. The community support is growing- it’s clear to them that Union Hill and Church Hill want to continually improve the landscape.
8 days ago, Vanessa and I witnessed a great turnout as the Task Force met with Jon Baliles from the Richmond Mayor’s office. The goal was to witness firsthand how busy Jefferson Avenue is at the early rush hour. What’s most striking about this initiative is the passion- you can tell that there’s been not only a lot of thought put into this, but there’s an energy that when met with planning and persistence, gives you the hope that change is achievable.

Are there any previous articles about this group – perhaps someone can give us a reminder of what they are attempting to accomplish, exactly?
Ummmm…Union Hill sort of “wants to continually improve itself” as well.
Let’s get this done! Jefferson Avenue should be safe for people to walk and bike. Turning excess asphalt into greenspace would help. Fyi, the 2015 conceptual plan for a better Jefferson is available here: https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-12/documents/gac_richmond_121115.pdf

The best thing to make Jefferson Avenue safer would be to remove the mini traffic circles that were installed.
Wow!really ,I grewup in richmond 48years but i need to ask this question .safe for whom?ive took my grandchildren at least5times to jefferson park only for caucasions women to grab thier children acting as their afraid of toddlers.im disabled so i walk with a cane.i even heard men saying comments that we re not welcomed at the park.so i ask,safe for whom?churchhill should be safe for all mankind.i would love to see a nice affordable grocerystore that is easily accessible by foot,wheelchair,vehicle.also remember to say a kind word to someone.

Juanita, speaking for myself as a latino guy, my intention and the Task Force is to make it ‘safer’ in terms of traffic. It’s a dangerous road for a pedestrian.

Gustavo can we get in contact? I am looking at heading a task force to address similar items with Carrington Street (Union Hill).
