Renovation or public nuisance?
04/13/2005 7:49 AM by John M
Councilwoman Delores McQuinn’s house has been deemed a public nuisance by Richmond property inspectors. McQuinn says, “This is a piece of property that’s being renovated, not a blighted property.”
The article doesn’t say where the house is located, though the photo looks like it is a neighborhood house. Can anyone say where this house is?
[ from nbc12.com
It’s on the SE corner of E Broad. I think the cross street is 31st.
How can McQuinn’s property be declared a public nuisance and the property just up the street at 509 N 35th St not? The neighbors surrounding this vacant apartment complex have been complaining to the city for well over a year and the blighted conditions have not been abated.
Maybe blight has different definitions depending on whether the property is North or South of Broad
The address in question is 3101 E Broad Street.

It is my understanding that it is very difficult for the city to do anything if the owner of the property can not be found or if the ownership is in dispute.
its because 509 N 35th St is not on Broad St. also it looks to me that someone is stealing the siding from that building, go ahead and tear it down. BTW i think someone is living in there now.
We live at 3019 E. Broad Street (just across 31st Street from Ms. McQuinns house. We do NOT regard it as a nuisiance, but are very glad that it’s in the renovation stage. Renovation takes a long time and we have seen tremendous improvement in this area since we moved on the Hill some 17 years ago.
The address of the house in question is 3101 E. Broad Street.
The media doesn’t have anything else to do but harass a woman who has done wonders for the 7th district and this city. She has done more than any councilmember in this city’s history. The house is under renovation. It is not blighted property. I think the city needs to inspect Channel 12, for being bias and ignorant. Jerks………
Here are photos of 509 North 35th Street and 3101 East Broad Street, for comparison.
The city needs to inspect that enormous cradle by Chimborazo playground. It seems to me that someone is trying to start some confusion with Councilwoman Mcquinn. Someone is playing games …………. I wonder who? In my lifetime, some folks have taken 5 to 10 years to renovate homes. They really need to leave Rev. Mcquinn alone and mind their own business.
The burnout treehouse in the backyard of 3013 E. Broad REALLY IS a blight.
