New award in honor of Thomas Cannon

The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods (A.C.O.R.N.) will present a new award at its annual Golden Hammer Awards on October 13th.

In honor of Richmond’s extraordinary benefactor, the Thomas Cannon Neighborhood Conservation Award will be given to a person who or an entity that has made a significant contribution to the conservation of a neighborhood within the city. This contribution may have been made as labor, funding, or in some other meaningful way which improves the physical surroundings of a community, making a better place for all. And– in the spirit of the recently deceased Mr. Cannon, a long-time resident of Church Hill-this contribution must have been givven without regard for personal gain or reward.

The winner of the Thomas Cannon Award will be announced before the October event. Nominations can be made by contacting A.C.O.R.N. at 804.422.2148. Nomination forms will soon be available on the ACORN website. The deadline for submissions is August 30th.
