An organizational meeting for the Friends of Jefferson Park will be held Monday, July 24, at 6pm at 2018 Princess Anne Avenue.
Discussion topics include:
- Train Excavation/Park History
- Park Maintenance/Enhancements
- Dogs and People
- Safety/Security
- Organizational Structure
- Goals/Objectives
Please RSVP to Bill Conkle at junkifunki@aol.com or 649-3764.
TAGGED: St.John's District
Everyone who uses and cares about Jefferson Park is invited to get involved and shape this organization. If you are interested, but unable to attend the initial meeting, please let us know and we will include you in future meeting notices. I passed out invitations to houses around the park, but please spread the word to your neighbors and friends.
Someone should alert the Church Hill Planters Society. They’d be a great resource.
The meeting is still on for Monday night. Although the City has temporarily stopped the work on the train and tunnel, there is still a need to start a Friends of Jefferson Park group. It is vital that the citizens that use the park have a voice in its future. Hope you can make it.
Some items that have been brought up include:
1. Placing an historical highway marker at the park to interpret the history of the park and tunnel.
2. Working to get the park on the State and Federal Register of Historic Places.
3. Improving Maintenance at the park- having regular park spruce-up days.
4. Working with the City to maintain and enhance the park.
5. Working with the Police to improve park safety and security.
6. Re-plantdead trees and prune existing trees for their health and user safety.
7. Encourage pet owners to clean-up after dogs.
8. Improve park amenities.
9. Host an event in the park for the community- a Jazz Concert Series, for example.
If you have an interest in any of these or other items, please come by the meeting.
Friends of Jefferson Park will hold their 2nd Meeting on Monday Night August 28th, 6pm at 2018 Princess Anne Avenue, followed by a covered dish cookout at the park. contact Bill Conkle, 649-3764 for more information. Peace.
