Garage has McQuinn in hot water
05/16/2007 6:57 AM by John M
Richmond City Council Vice President Delores McQuinn will appear in Richmond General District Court May 22 due to code violations on the garage of her house undergoing renovation at 31st and Broad Streets. [via]
From the article in Style:
“We were renovating a property and the garage we were working on became an issue, and it shouldn’t have been an issue,” says McQuinn, who characterizes the incident as part of the current “political whirlwind” at City Hall.
Heavens! It’s about time.
Old
If indeed she was victimized by the citys processes, perhaps she will learn from this and get off her but and actually fight for common sense approaches to solving neighborhood problems.
Or, she will just retreat into her shell of ignoring other peoples problems, taking credit for progress that happens in spite of her and laying blame on others.
Either way, I now know where she lives. Anyone have a couple of cases of toilet paper I can borrow for decorative purposes?
Well, I certainly hope that she is cited and fined for the horrible condition of the property. Not only is the garage a mess but the house is equally bad. This must be the longest “renovation” in history….The condition of the road certainly could not have prevented them from putting windows in the house! The place is an eyesore–fine her!
Or we could always go after her with sharpened sticks
This must be the longest “renovation†in history
I’m pretty sure that we’re actually guilty of that.
I am certainly in the running. 19 years and still working at it.
Do we have any images? Fan readers want to know!
Well, she is cleaning up her garage, but the boards with the nails have only been covered up and her clean-up people are taking garbage cans from the neighborhood to put the trash, leaves and grass cuttings in. I, for one, would appreciate my can back. It is the only one I have.
Ruth…If McQuinn took your Supercan then use the Citizen’s Request form from the city to complain.
The city has a fraud and waste hotline now. Use that!
Rumor has it that McQuin is also behind all of the chicken bones found in Chimbo Park by my dogs….She sneaks over there in the middle of the night, vampire like, devours whole chickens, and discards the bones willy nilly.
OOOOOooooooooooooooooo
I wouldn’t doubt that Nordy!
Tis true, tis true. Last night as I was going to bed, I heard a horrific howling followed by a great cry of chickens in pain. I ventured into the park to investigate and caught a glimpse of our esteemed council person running away. This morn I returned to the site and found chicken bones scattered everywhere.
You all are some cranky asswipes and disrespectful bastards.
Comments like these make me work even harder for McQuin and get the “poor people” out to vote when election time rolls around. Out right racist!!
WHat is racist here? Complaining about her violating the law? Making bad jokes about her?
Tell me this, what has McQuinn really done for you? Think hard. There are lots of issues that she could tackle. SHe could try to improve schools. She could try to find ways to ease the impact of property tax increases on seinors on fixed incomes. Instead she tries to sue the mayor, refuses to help businesses, and serves as an all around demagogue.
Chicken bones and the usual unsurprising racist cries aside (yawn! it gets old people!)… What I’d like to know is why the wheels of justice move so slowly for the councilwoman. This claim was filed on 4/12/2005 and has been TWICE continued since her FIRST hearing last January. It is currently set again for July 10, 2007.
Has someone in city administration been looking the other way for more than TWO YEARS? Professional courtesy? Exploitation of the office, perhaps?
Further, her attorney is registered as “Marsh.” I wonder if it’s Henry.
Elected officials should strive to be beyond reproach. This seems fishy to me. Prove me wrong.
The case number is GC05003387-00 if anyone wants to check it out for themselves.
For the record, the chicken bones were intended as satire. My dogs do find chicken bones in the park every monday. You are welcome to look yourself. Since Everyone loves to jump on McQuin for other problems, I assigned the bones to here. Chicken bones should not automatically make a comment racist.
So summarizing,
McQuinn is a waste of space regardless of her color, she does little other than bread and circuses for her constituency
Chicken bones are in the park, this is a verifiable fact. They do not readily biodegrade and can potentially choke a dog (having removed a bone from my dogs throat I know this)
I make bad jokes.
The racism is in your mind, not mine
I understand that the court date was this past week. So what happened???
mcquinn’s building code violation case on her propery at 31st and broad has been continued til July 10th in richmond general district court.
yet, she can turn around and vote on ordiance 2007-142-104 (old and historic church hill north city of richmond) that makes building codes stricter for other people.
could this be a conflict of interest or a facade?
if you look into it you may find that mcquinn voted on the city ordinance that gives penalties to those that violate existing building, property maintenance violations. mcquinn (1) did not know what she was voting on or (2)does not care that the ordinance is violated.
I would like to hear McQuinn’s side of the story. She hasn’t been convicted yet. It’s within the realm of possibilities that there is some sort of mitigating circumstance.
As long as McQuinn plays by the same rules the city expects everyone else to play by.
Still, I think mob violence would be a lot more fun than an impartial hearing.
it is all a facade. the committee of architectural review sent out survey postcards for the church hill north old and historic city of richmond initiative. out of 587 parcels, 138 in favor, 49 against and 9 had no opinion. do the math. how did the CAR get 77% in favor? who would have ever thought that if you did not return your survey postcard that you would have your property rights stripped? just like the kelo supreme court decision, this is just another assault and errosion of property rights. this should have never gotten out of CAR. can you say “railroaded?”
Anne: Can you tack on an initial or something to your name when you post? There is another Anne that posts regularly and I do not want folks to get the 2 of you confused or misattribute any comments that y’all might post.
anne, the new city church hill north historic district fit a social need. expansion of the gated south of broad historic district. about the numbers:
1. the world is run by those that show up and those that fail to respond can only complain abt those running the world
2. if you do not like the numbers that show up, multiply by zero and add then number you want.
Anne — The numbers don’t quite work, but they’re far from outrageous. But, the more serious question is “who is having their property rights stripped?” Are you all worked up because you want to let your garage fall into an egregious state of disrepair (like a certain elected official) or are you upset that you won’t be able to build your McMansion on your 30 foot wide lot?
Anne, I’m not sure if you realize, but the CAR designation was a grass-roots movement not just supported by postcards, but by people showing up at meetings – public meetings advertized in more places than this blog. I can’t think of a more transparent process. Certainly the decision-makers would have loved to have heard from you a few weeks before now at one of the numerous hearings on this.
Wait, I am getting confused by all of these sideline issues. Are or arent we meeting this friday night in Libby Park to form an angry mob?
there is no thing as an “impartial hearing” so the angry mob seems the best way to go. what is the anger about?
Not really sure. I just like to form angry mobs periodically. It gives me a chance to drink and brandish primitave weaponry like torches, pitchforks and sharpened sticks.
