How do I recycle?
A new reader writes: “I am new in the neighborhood. How do I recycle?”
The city site has all of the info at Richmond Recycles:
Curbside Recycling:
Your Recycling day is the same as your trash collection day, only it is every other week. Call 646-0999 if you’re not sure of your week.No Need to Separate – the following items can be mixed all together in your recycling bin: newspapers, mixed paper, aluminum cans, steel cans, aluminum foil, glass bottles and jars, narrow neck plastic bottles #1 & #2, (such as milk, soap, shampoo & detergent bottles). Throw your lids in the trash.
We serve residential customers in single-family, duplex, and fourplexes. Sorry, no apartment complexes.
Do I have to use a green bin or can I use any kind?
Use any kind of bin you want – just put it out!Why didn’t they take my boxes?
You need to break down your cardboard boxes so we can put them in the truck. It’s raining. I don’t want everything to get wet. Should I wait another TWO weeks?
No problem. Wet, dry…all the same to us. Put ’em out!Why don’t you take plastic bags?
We don’t have a market. Speaking of markets, bring them to your grocery store. Most accept them gladly.I live in an apartment complex. What can I do?

TAGGED: recycle
The other thing that confused us some if the holiday stuff. The city trash workers get a lot more holidays than the private recycling workers. On those weeks recycling is it’s normal day and the trash doesn’t get picked up until the next day.
