QUESTION: what are they building?
03/10/2008 12:10 PM by John M
The new construction going up at Fairfield and Mechanicsville Turnpike is supposed to be storage, if they ever finish.
storage for what? and whom?
rental, I think, for people with too many worldly possessions.
I haven’t seen too many newly-built storage facilities with three stories. I hope they’re putting sprinklers in…
High-production meth lab
Think it is for apartments.. look in foreground a stack of bathtubs.
The Free Press said it was a warehouse.
Weird place for a any of that; weird to see a 3 story all-wood building going up these days…
The foundation has sat there for almost over a year. They had reached 3 stories before then the next day it was back to 1. That was weird too. Watch they cover it in ugly vinyl.
The bathtubs are for the meth!
Property Investment because it sure isn’t doing much now! Still sitting and if you ever get stopped at that light take a close look at the walls and where the 1st and 2nd floors meet…they bow outwards! Wonder building code inspectors haven’t caught that – or maybe they have? And it looks more like apartments because as mentioned, I also saw bathtubs.
Oh, speaking of Mechanicsville Tpk. Can someone tell me if it was torn down or moved and if demolished, why? The big white antebellum house with columns across from the Showplace. Any history on it?

Still vacant, still a mystery….

Interesting…I noticed the walls bowing too. I saw some workers over there during the summer for about 1 week…then nothing again.
Yup, still empty and vines are starting to take over the outside of the building. Windows are open all the time to the weather and I am sure vagrants are staying in it. Would be condemned “as is”. Wonder why the owner doesn’t sell or tear it down?
