Watching new restaurants
08/19/2008 7:44 AM by John M
Six month follow-up: the BBQ joint on Jefferson Avenue is still in the works, Yall’s Place has a ABC notice in the window, a new foundation has been poured on the lot beside the former Jumpin J’s, and It Must Be Heaven has to open sometime, right?
lies all lies! we are never getting ice cream!
Count me as someone who couldn’t be LESS interested in “It Must Be Heaven”. AS if we need ANOTHER place to get coffee, scones, ice cream and quiche…..and to think, now we get all that with a healthy dose of religion…:(
I still can’t get a good sandwich or pizza delivered to me past 9PM and there’s nowhere for me to grab a 6-pack of high end microbrew beers on the Hill regardless of the time of day (and no, the Market doesn’t count) You’d think someone would try to step up and fill those voids.
But hey, I can get the same cup of coffee in three places now, right?
There certainly is a delivery void in Church Hill. I only know of two places that deliver to where I live: the Chinese restaurant on Creighton (Fu Juan?) and Bottom’s Up. It’s been this way the entire 15 years I’ve been up here.
Bottom’s Up doesn’t come as far where I’m at.
This can mean only one thing: God hates ice cream… in Church Hill.
I guess it’s only carry out for you, John.
Regarding delivery, I’ve managed to get Piccola Italy on Harrison to deliver pizza and Peking on Cary to deliver Chinese to my place on 27th.
Haven’t figured out how to get good Thai without leaving the house yet. 🙂
Elephant Thai delivered to our place–we live on E. Marshall between 21st and 22nd.
I’m not sure how far up Bottom’s Up delivers but they only go to the corner of the 600 block after dark. During the day they have been kind enough to deliver to the 700 block of 23rd. Peking also has delivered to me on the 700 block but they rarely have a delivery driver when I call for an order. I hear the Chinese place over on Creighton is nasty so I haven’t tried it. It sure would be nice, though, to have some more delivery options on the hill.
By the way, the ice cream is nice I guess but are they all bible bangers there?
I think the term is “bible thumpers”, but “bible bangers” makes an interesting mental picture.
Oh…I guess you have a pont Tiny! Then thumpers it is!
For delivery try “Bubbling” on Main St (where River City Diner used to be). They have mediterranean food plus great pizza and subs and more. They also deliver until 3am on friday and saturday. I’m on the 600 block of 33rd and they have never let me down.
Does anyone know the status of Inner City Blues? I still see signs of life inside every once in awhile.
Re: Inner City Blues…In the last couple of weeks I have seen them taking kitchen equipment out of the building. I think that project is a “no go” at this point. Maybe Elaine knows more current information.
Another vote for Bubbling — and for anyone who doesn’t know, Mohammed, the owner, is one of the former owners of Aladdin Express — same incredibly awesome food but closer to the Hill! Their hummus gets my Lebanese chick seal of approval, and seriously, I don’t give that stamp out lightly when it comes to hummus.
To date, I have received no new information about the status of Inner City Blues from either the management or property owner. However, did I observe folks moving chairs and assorted furnishings from the building prior to 7-31-08.
I met and talked to owner of ALmost Heaven Ice Cream shop on Sunday afternoon – when they were working to open sometime next week. Yes, Virginia there will be ice cream on the Hill soon for all, YUMMY!
Stay tuned for Grand Opening and super- specials, (for kids and seniors and the shop will be pet friendly too).
JJ
I’d love to have something like the Strawberry Street Market within walking distance. Can someone take care of that for me? I’m waiting….
I noticed people working inside the building located at the intersection of N 31st and E Marshall last night (catty corner from the school). I have no idea what that will be but the property is zoned commercial.
will the “Almost Heaven Ice Cream shop” have Frosty Paws???
I forgot Bubbling…I do like his food (well, most of it) although he uses too much of a certain Mediterranean spice that I can’t quite put my finger on. SUPER nice guy…and GREAT hours. We got delivery at 2:45am one weekend!!!
Another vote here for a Strawberry Street Market type place (fresh foods and handcrafted beers amongst other things)
Oh, maybe it’s just me but does anyone else find Bottom’s Up to be the most overpriced, overrated restaurant in the Bottom? What’s the fascination with this place? Call me a New York style pizza snob but I think Mary Angelas or Piccola’s beats Bottom’s Up ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Their sandwiches also leave a LOT to be desired. I’ve yet to order from there and not get cold, greasy battered style fries and overcooked hamburgers…..the Chili is god awful….and the pasta sauce is atrocious too.
I order from there because well, basically no one else delivers (with the exception of Bubbling)
There seems to be a new Pizza Place opening up next to McGuire’s Pharmacy on Main. I think the place is called “Main Pizza”. I will certainly try that place out once it opens.
yeah being a former ny resident, i must agree with andrew, that bottoms up leaves a lot to be desired. however, next time you go, check out their home-made basil salad dressing…AWESOME!
Andrew, I’m with you on Mary Angela’s! When I lived in the Fan I ordered from there once a week at least. Their white pizza with chicken, feta, art hearts, spinach, and shrooms is the absolute bomb! The other food there is quiet good as well…Having a Mary Angela’s II in our area would be wonderful!
Valentino’s at 3rd and Grace 775-2020
Bubbling in the 1700 block of eat main 780-3020
Domino’s at VCU 644-3030
these three pizza places deliver to my home at 36th and broad. The guy at Valentino’s said he loves coming to church hill so he can get gas at the exxon on 18th. i have heard that extreme pizza on Broad will deliver sometimes when VCU is not in session.
I agree with the words about Bubbling the mediterranean food is way yummy and they are quite nice people. if you go there to eat, they have hookahs to smoke from on the second floor and they sell flavored smoking vegetation.
In defense of Bottom’s Up, they don’t pretend to make New York style pizza. It is what it is. That said, I do agree that it’s waaaay overpriced for what it is.
I like the pizza joint on Main in the Bottom… can’t think of the name of the place, but it’s only open at night and has pretty good NY pizza. Maybe the guy imports water from the Hudson, I don’t know, but it’s as close to the real thing as I’ve found in Richmond.
Don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for the Church Hill Market to open soon. The banner says they will be opening this Fall 2008!
Can’t wait! It’s gonna be awesome.
Just a quick note on “It Must Be Heaven”-
The owners have gone through Hell and back- funny no?!- to met the parking requirements from the City- aka Que Pasa. They have FINALLY received a tentative approval and should be opening soon. I will post a date when S.Johnson has a better idea of the exact opening.
It amazes me that shops here have a parking requirement when most of us walk, hence the pedestrian friendly feel (and appeal) to the neighborhood.
If this were downtown I could understand, but not here in Church Hill.
Piccola had always delivered to 28 & Clay, although it was always a tough choice because Bubbling has some delicous baklava! I think I also remember the chinese place across from Bacchus on Main & Meadow(I think that is Fu Jian) delivering to us in Church Hill.
so what is the deal with the parking requirements anyway… i don’t see all these restaurants & bars in the fan having these sorts of problems— and parking down there is a nightmare! This is a city people, park where you find it and deal…
“so what is the deal with the parking requirements anyway”
It’s a standard code requirement for all businesses to have a certain number of available parking spots. Otherwise you would have a major developer not wasting space and money on parking. For businesses such as this they have to go through the long and tedious variance process…
Most places take code variance requests VERY seriously because they can range from the simple parking to life safety issues.
I thought awhile back the City was looking at a code change for small businesses in the city. I guess it never passed.
Wow. I had no idea that some many people delivered. I’ll try Bubbling. But Dominos – ugh.
This issue with parking for small/neighborhood businesses is PRECISELY what we should be dealing with in the current re-zoning plan for Church/Union Hill. R63 where are you?
We’ve been told by city planners that the political muscle doesn’t exist to oust current (draconian) parking requirements for small businesses in our area. In other words, not enough people are complaining to our Councilperson McQuinn.
If we all rise up in chorus and convince her that we want a parking-free zone for small businesses, then we’ll have the neighborhood services we so passionately desire.
If we’re gonna do that, then we also have to agree not to whine about loosing our convenient parking spaces at our homes when folks outside our community decide they want to shop/visit a great restaurant/bar here, too.
Do we really want it to be like the Fan? Some of us say yes, some of us say no, some of us aren’t sure.
Either way, now is the time to let your voice be heard. Tonite at 7pm the Union Hill Civic Association is meeting with city planners to discuss the proposed re-zoning for Union/Church Hill. We’ll be at the Montessori School on 20th. Come join the discussion. We plan to vote on our position tonight.
Wow! People like “Bubbling”. I was scared to go inside because I thought that was the noise one’s colon made after they ate there?
From the City Planners:
An R-63 zone is a mixed-use zoning district that allows residential and limited commercial uses of less than 2,500 sq ft on corner lots. The R-63 zone is intended to be pedestrian oriented, with the commercial use oriented to serve the immediate neighborhood and does not require off-street parking for the permitted commercial uses on corner lots.
Contact Tarissa Griffith in City Planning to see the complete rezoning map and get all the particulars about zoning codes that apply to Church/Union Hill.
Speaking of restaurants, what’s the deal with the new faces at Captain Buzzy’s? I hate to say it, but one of the faces behind the register this morning is the ex-owner of Shockoe Espresso. At least I think he’s the ex-owner. Either way, it was he who made that place a really shi**y experience to visit. He was loud, rude, and about as unprofessional as they come.
What’s goin’ on here, Cap’n?
When we first moved to Church Hill, deliveries was still a problem as there was the old stigma surrounding the area. It has gotten better and various delivery places will leave flyers on your door.
As for Pizza, I know Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Poppa John’s deliver to the 400 block of N. 27th Street. The Italian Sub/Pizza place mentioned above has left flyers on our door but haven’t ordered from them yet. And Wan Jin Lou on Creighton has delivered to our house enough times that all we have to say is “the big white house” and they know exactly who we are.
As far as variety and “services” in general, there is a BIG void for Downtown Richmond and points East. You can’t even get a decent barber on Saturdays without having to drive several miles away. No tire places, no car repairs, no office supplies, etc… in our area and/or open on Saturdays. Wasn’t like that 40-50 years ago. There was a glut of businesses all along the main drags of Main, Broad, even Marshall Streets.
Eric
The ex-owners of Shockoe Expresso ARE the owners of Buzzy’s. I don’t know about Shockoe Expresso, but he’s a pretty nice guy (I’m a former employee of Buzzy’s).
Post 29 on this thread: /2008/08/19/watching-new-restaurants/#comment-38786
indicates the parking regulations have been the hold up.
Eric, I live on the 600 block of N. 27th and can’t get Papa John’s to come anywhere near it… which branch do you order from?
You guys talking about the African American guy? I know a ton of people that work at the Martin Agency right next to Shockoe Espresso. There was a boycott going on for a while with a lot of people because to even set foot in there was so unpleasant. Service was cra* and so was the treatment.
It’s much better now.
Eric- RE: “You can’t even get a decent barber on Saturdays without having to drive several miles away.”
I get my hair cut by a guy named Fred at Harvey’s Progressive Barber Shop at Foushee & Broad, right downtown. Fred lives on 27th Street (my street also), and he’s a *very* nice guy and does a *fab* job on my head.
Also, there’s Adam’s Barber Shop, an old style joint complete with barber pole outside the door, that’s been at 821 West Broad, just down from Five Guys, for 30 years. (Get Mr. Adams to do you, the other old codger ain’t quite up to the task, IMHO.)
In *both* these establishments, you can not only get a cut, but get a jen-u-wine hot lather & shave with a straight razor. A real treat on a cold winter’s day!
I submit that there’s not such a void in the area as you think. One just has to be proactive in searching out local businesses, and then patronizing same.
There’s Dave’s Barber Shop on 18th street. Anthony Hopkins gets his hair cut there when in Richmond.
I’m at the 2700 block of E. Leigh and I can tell you with 100% certainty….No Piccola’s, No Papa John’s, no Domino’s…God knows I’ve tried….
So I guess we will all get ice cream when summer is over?! smart!
Trent’s barber shop in the old nickel bank 29th & leigh open every Saturday @ 7 A.M. $10
Interesting, I’m in the 900 block of N. 26th St, and I’ve had Piccola’s deliver at least five times to my place.
I’m assuming post 28 is a joke! The guy who lives on the north east corner of 29th and Broad, from what I hear has made it, so far, impossible for the market to have a profitable business. He objects to the upstairs plans. See their site plan.
Andrew: I’m with you. I live on the 3600 block of E. Marshall and was told by Dominoe’s they don’t go passed the 3500 block of anything. And Papa John’s, Piccola’s, etc., have all said similar things as well.
There was this one place we found delivers but the pizza wasn’t all that great.
Magneto: Piccola’s is great, they’re the only pizza that’s not Bottom’s Up that I’ve been able to get up on the 600 block of 27th. Every now and then, though, I have to confess I get a craving for Papa John’s.
Also, regarding the R-63 zoning classification, several of us will be campaigning the neighborhood over the next few days. Basically we need signatures to express support of the R-63 district and its possible expansion in addition to parking overlay districts. This is all in response to the North Church Hill rezoning study. So, just keep an eye out for us; we’ll be knocking on your doors within the next few days.
Magneto, you’ll be happy to hear that at the Union Hill Civic Association meeting this evening (Wed 8-20-08,) the members voted in support of replacing the proposed R7 zoning with R63. We limited our vote to cover only properties within Union Hill.
Now, it’s up to the folks in the CHA and their Zoning Committee to consider doing the same for areas to the east and south of Union Hill (traditionally viewed as CHA territory).
City Planning staff (Tarissa Griffith & Tyler Potterfield) were in attendance and they heard us loud and clear. They also did a very good job of presenting the proposed zoning and answered questions from the group.
As citizens, we simply disagreed with what the city planners were proposing for our neighborhood. They’re marching orders are to interpret a City Master Plan which we feel doesn’t fairly represent the desires of Union Hill residents.
Good luck in your petition drive.
What about pizza at Sette? They have take out and while no delivery it’s just down the hill.
Strawberry Street Market is what the Church Hill Market was supposed to be..I just wish these owners would FINALLY cut their losses on the building at Broad and 29th..and sell the place and give the neighborhood back an opportunity for someone to fix it up and provide us a decent market venue..enough of empty promises..it is getting pretty ridiculous at this point!
Yes, Progressive barber has a high rating but alas.. it only does ethnic cuts. How about barbers who do both white and black haircuts in the Church Hill area without being made to feel uncomfortable while you wait? I passed by it last Saturday while going to the William Byrd barber and saw it packed but also a bunch of girls hanging out there too which looks suspiciously like … well, you know.
As far as Pizza deliveries… yes, they deliver to us BUT they take so long that the pizza is cold by the time it arrives. Not really worth the bother.
As for the parking situation in Church Hill. Places that have take out have different parking restrictions than those for eat in places but believe either way are required by square footage of business space to have x-number of spaces and the city is working on grandfathering in one space per business from an old zoning?
Parking will “always” be an issue for businesses in Church Hill as I have reiterated several times… the buildings were built during a time when people walked or took the trolley, bus, or taxi cabs to wherever they went and did not rely on a private car for each member of the family! There were many one car families years ago who carpooled or no car families and of course before then, horse and buggy families. Location is key and 50+ years ago these small business buildings were in prime locations but now days are in inconvenient places and off the beaten path for the masses so limited to neighborhood patronage.
Eric
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, or if it even means anything, but all the “coming soon/construction delay” signs are down at It Must Be Heaven. Not sure what that might mean though…
Looks like It Must be Heaven is moving along and closer to openind its doors..even the buidling that once housed Sandra’s home cooking is being renovated on 29th street…let’s get something done now with the market on 29th and Broad..any news..can we put this place up for sale if the owners aren’t willing or don’t have the $$$ to renovate the place..at what point will the city step in?
I heard at a party yesterday evening that It Must Be Heaven is set to open today (9/8)!
Someone was working in there yesterday. I look forward to stepping out for a hotdog -a good cheap recession food.
#59: Regarding the Church Hill Market “can we put this place up for sale if the owners aren’t willing or don’t have the $$$ to renovate the place..”
If that was a legal option, most of Church Hill and the City of Richmond would have been seized years ago. Property rights!
There are boarded up storefronts all over the place up here. Why is Church Hill Market the whipping boy? Because it’s right under your toffee noses, that’s why.
The City can step in when owners have either not paid their property taxes for over 2 years or the property meets the spot blight criteria (which are tought to meet, so the City is reluctant to step in).
What about the church hill mkt. is a laugh. The folks who live around the mkt. don’t have to look at the likes of 401 N. 27th. Street. 401 N.27th. has been in the renovation mode for over three years now. The building is a shell has no roof left, there is a construction fence around it. The construction fence has been there for over three years. The weeds in and around the fence are as tall as a human not to mention the abandoned supercans inside the fence.
Talk about something to complain about, 401 is a blight of the worst kind. I am a landlord on the 400 block of 27th. street and my property is well taken care of. However, everytime someone views my property for rent, they always ask when is that thing going to be torn down. I defend the building or what’s left of it as being the oldest commercial building still standing. Well the response is always the same, what building?
I thought a property owner was responsible for the sidewalks around their property and being this property line is on the sidewalk, what’s the deal.
The fence has been there forever, no-one can walk on that side of the street, and the bus stop at the corner of Marshall and 27th. folks have to wait in the street for the bus.
I’ve reported it to the city a million times, and I am a firm believer the city does what they want.
The owner must have friends downtown, it seems whenever someone has friends dtn. they never have to follow the same rules as the rest of us.
Does anyone else have a complaint about this property?
That property has come up enough to have earned its own tag.
Aladdin Express delivers to Church Hill. Pizza plus Mediterranean food is their fare, some of it’s pretty good.
Good Taste Chinese food delivers to Church Hill also. As far as Chinese-American food goes, I think it’s fine -good wonton soup, they use good size shrimp in various dishes, and their veggies are not limp swimming in MSG.
I forgot to erase my husband’s name/email. Post #67 is me, Gray.
Hey Ron… it is Steven of Jim and Steven here…
I have been defending and getting various people as well as the city involved in the 401 building (see other threads on this I update under Eric). The current owner has been playing games with the city and now is going through the red tape cycle to have it sold off under ordinance laws. The “sale” phase was postponed by a month due to the fact that the city didn’t properly notify the owner so now will be in the “planning commission” office October 6th at 1:30pm. The Historic Richmond Foundation is very interested in purchasing the property and has the funds available to fully restore it. Just hope they can obtain this for our block and community. I know you have a special interest because this building is next door to your property and is always at risk of falling onto it. For us it is the fact that it was built by the same man who built our home as his business.
Ramzi, I was in Aladdin the other night and they told me they’re not delivering any more. Is this true?
Even if they’re not, they’re still the best middle eastern food in town! And don’t forget Bubbling (in the Bottom at the old River City location) is owned by the previous co-owner of Aladdin and is just as good. Do they deliver?
I know a guy who works at Elephant Thai and he said they’ll deliver almost anywhere in Church Hill, although anything north of Fairmount and you’d probably really have to do some convincing.
The food’s great, too. Who else has eaten there?
We ordered take out from Bubbling once. That was enough. The felafel was really soggy, cold and boring. The tahini was nasty and the salad that we order was all iceberg and really wilted.
There is never anyone in the place and no wonder (besides the fact that they don’t serve liquor and there’s hooka smoke everywhere). This place will be gone within six months.
I have wondered how well Bubbling would do. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a soul in there (with the exception of the staff). Seems like a rather odd sort of place to put in the bottom.
I drove by It Must be Heaven around 6pm and there were people in there who appeared to be servers. After dinner, we walked there to get dessert and it was closed. Does anyone know if has opened?
I heard it opened yesterday but that may have been misinformation. Seems to me they would stay open a little later in the summer since ice cream makes a great after dinner treat…
Re: It Must Be Heaven
I drove by it this past Sunday and also thought I saw people coming from that direction and the signs were out of the window. But if they have limited hours, why even bother for those of us who work?
Eric
They don’t serve alcohol because they are Muslim. And if there’s no one in there, where is the hookah smoke coming from?
I don’t know what happened when you ordered, Hillkid, but both Aladdin and Bubbling have always done me right. As an Arab chick myself I am pretty picky about my falafel (and tahini, and hummus, and baba ghanouj) and I have never had a bad meal at either.
It is true that Aladdin’s does not deliver anymore, regardless of location. I have found Bubbling to be an acceptable substitute, and despite their lack of customer base they have been around for over a year I beleive. Elephant Thai is also quite delicous, something about those curry puffs….
Re: It Must Be Heaven, we stopped by on Monday and the owners treated us to some wonderful Gelati Celeste, the ice cream they’ll be serving. They’re doing a “test week” this week to test out the various pieces of equipment, and plan to open this Friday. Their hours sound very normal and accommodating to people who work during the day. They seem like great folks who really want to press value into this community.
Wow–Gelati Celeste is the best.
I wait all year for their Girl Scout cookie “Thin Mint” gelato….yummers.
If Bubbling is so good as some of you say it is (and I totally disagree), then how come there is NO ONE ever in the joint?
Anne: I guess the owners must be doing all the smoking because it is smokey in there.
And, with all do respect, having the same ethnicity as a certain cuisine does not make one an expert on it, or a reliable critic.
Corey W.
How did their prices look? Within range of non-gourmet clients? Also, are they selling hot dogs and the likes mentioned earlier or just ice cream right now?
Eric
Bubbling’s visual/interior design aesthetics are a bit “off” but the food is solid. I think Hillkid just got them on an off night. Or maybe a slow delivery driver. They deserve a second chance, don’t you think? I’ve always had great falafel there, as well as pizza. Been there over 5 times. Aladdins too. And unless Hillkid is monitoring customer amount throughout the day, there’s no way to tell who goes there when. I’m sure lunch is really busy.
#83:
No. I have an office on Main Street and have walked by there several times since they have been open and there is never anyone there during the day or at night.
They will be closed soon, unless they are doing TONS of take out like the East Villa.
Wow, Hillkid, you are just a little merry sunshine! We get it! You think (or apparently hope) they’ll go out of business soon. Remind me not to get on your bad side.
I’m not saying my ethnicity makes me an authority or a reliable witness, officer. I am asserting that I grew up eating middle eastern food and as a result I am picky about it and am quick to pan a falafel that doesn’t measure up to *my* standards. Which may not be the same as yours or anyone else’s. Them’s just the facts. And the facts in my case are I’ve never been less than delighted with my combo no meat from Bubbling.
hillkid… I have to agree with you on your last comment about being an expert of ethnic cuisine. Not that I have been to this restaurant but the comment is good for any place/person.
Eric
This evening we stopped by It Must Be Heaven and ate the most heavenly icecream in Richmond. On Friday and Saturday nights they will be open until 11pm. This is a great addition to our neighborhood.
I’m glad this place is finally open. Ice cream is definitely on the agenda for today
The guy a poster saw at Buzzy’s is Tee. He is the ex-manager, and a moron. Shockoe is much better now, so you know. Also the owner of buzzy’s is an ex manager of Shockoe Espresso from years and years ago.
Open late on the weekends!! I am in heaven – and I am one of those people who eat ice cream year-round – can’t wait to try it out!
Hate to bring this old thread back up but wanted to comment on my pizza order experience this evening so others won’t fall into the same situation.
When we moved to Church Hill, it was hard to find people to deliver here but one by one they did. And I knew from about 2 years ago, Pizza Hut delivered to the 400 block of N 27th from their 800 W Grace Street location. I called, the number still worked and the person placed me on hold 2 times while taking my order. The third time he hung up as soon as he picked the phone back up. I called back 2 more times with the same results – hung up as soon as they answered so called their Consumer Hotline. They could not find the phone number or address in their database. Appears that the Grace Street store closed but the new location absorbed the phone number even if it isn’t in Pizza Hut’s databank. Finally I got a manager who said they no longer deliver to Church Hill but their franchise have been bought out a second time so who knows in the future.
45-minutes wasted so I decided to try Domino’s online for the first time. Placed my order and was given a time that exceeds the 30 minutes (closer to 1 hour). The Pizza Tracker stated that the pizza was in the heat bag and I kept waiting for it to say out for delivery but 1/2 hour later no change. So I called and the girl said the tracker was simply an “estimate” (so why have it?) and that she could not find my order but the manager said it was out for delivery. Sure enough, 1 hour 10 minutes later it is here – almost cold and the crust steamed and soggy. A $20 medium pizza that was no better than a frozen $5 supermarket one with no apologies, refund, nor coupon!
So… is there “anyone” who delivers pizza hot in our area in a timely fashion?
Eric
So. . . you don’t think you’d like the Patrick Henry’s food enough to even try it, but you order from Pizza Hut and Domino’s ? Really?
Just wanna get this right.
what an inane rant, agree hchaniski
Now why do you two want to even go there to stir up shit again? That is an old thread and should remain as such! And anyway, I don’t like Northern Italian food… I am not a very big seafood eater.
I was trying to be helpful with my last post as well as seek out suggestions.
And what is wrong with Pizza Hut pizza? I like their deep dish pan pizzas.
Eric
Eric,
Try Bubbling and Valentino’s both deliver to my place on Cedar. It’s decent NY style pie.
FYI, Bubbling is ca$h only.
picolla’s delivers, best pizza, ever!
1100 W Main St
Richmond, VA 23220
(804) 355-3111
i get bubbling all the time sometimes op to 3 am and it is awesome. and they have cheese cake! try the fries with the taziki sauce….so good. i also pick up the pizza at da vinci’s all the time and it is sooooooo good. it’s only a few blocks you know.
Da Vinci’s pizza is great but counter service there is ridiculously slow.
Eric, we have used Piccola’s, Pizza Hut online ordering and Bottoms Up. Bottoms Up is a little pricier so we do that when we can splurge!
I would have tried using the Pizza Hut online but I am sure with my address it would have been kicked out. The manager of the one at the 2300 block of W Broad said they “do not deliver to Church Hill” since they merged shops. And nothing but problems with the Domino’s online so… looks like the so called chains don’t give a flying french fry about customer service nor satisfaction like they did 10-20 years ago.
Eric
I get papa johns online with no problems. Also had Extreme pizza deliver to us. Both were good and hot.
We got a menu from Bubbling on our doorstep recently, and they now deliver and take credit cards! There’s a minimum charge ($15?) and a delivery fee, but only $1.50 I think. Also, Valentino’s has come through for us at 3am more than once.
