Fairmount eyesore has short future

Word from the code enforcement folks is that the corner store at 24th and Fairmount, vacant since burning almost 18 months ago, will likely have a demolition permit in place by the end of the month.
push it down, push it down, waaaayyyy down!
Does anyone know the historical significance of this building – if it has one? Doesn’t look to be all that old and if it was a makeshift building to start with and now gutted from fire, may be easier to tear it down and rebuild than trying to salvage it? That is “if” it isn’t old and/or historical.

It’s true I just spoke with David Cooper who issued the condemned notice on 3.27.07. He told me that Pryor, who owns the building and the demolition company that is taking it down, that he applied for the permit recently. It should be down in about 2 weeks. However, so he does not lose the footprint of the building there is a zoning appeal November 5th to rebuild a market. where’s that petition?
