Sandra’s cited, partially condemned
09/16/2008 5:54 AM by John M
While recent inspections by the Department of Health have not turned up any egregious problems, code violations have led to the center building at the Sandra’s Southern Style Soul Food Take Out being condemned. The building had been previously used for food storage. Additional code violations were reportedly filed for trash accumulation on the property and other commercial activity in the parking lot.
Too bad. I still hadn’t gone to eat there hearing they had good food but the business presentation end looks like no more than a glorified street vendor. Instead of a cart they have some questionable buildings. As far as behind the scenes if you run a food business you should be alert of health codes and inspections.

Sandra’s food rocks!!
I don’t want to know how they cook it, watch them cook it, or know how many Weight Watcher’s points it has…what I don’t know won’t hurt me! All I know is that I want to keep eating meatloaf and mac & cheese until my panyhose explodes.
When the food is that tasty, I don’t care about presentation.
Love that review by GM!
Watch GM go KaBoom!!!!!
Sandra’s is an asset to the neighborhood. Everyone should eat there.

An asset? Looks more like she sat on her ass instead of cleaning the place up and keeping the building up to code? Proper management and bookkeeping would dictate where monies should go including overhead expenses.
I stand by my statement. THe neighborhood would lose if she left. Sure- they should have kept up with maintenance, and maybe they’ll be able to get the repairs done. But as much as I appreciate CH for its aesthetics- they’re not everything. Sandra’s took what seems like an old gas station that was abandoned and turned it into a restaurant that serves great food. Better than an empty lot? Hell yes.
Could be improved? Of course. But I’ve found too many people who are scared off because of the look of the building or the corner it’s on or the fact that folks hang out in the parking lot and judge the restaurant before ever eating there. And without talking to the folks who hang out there. I love this place.
More often than not, it is the local dives and shacks that are serving the best food. I have found this to be true in all of my travels from places like Savanah and Miami to Jamaica and Europe. It’s about the food.
And she’s a great person to know! I don’t eat there because it’s soul food which means meat will be in everything, but lots of other people have enjoyed her food on several occasions.
Does Sandra’s have a takeout menu that you can pick up at the restaurant?? I know it’s takeout only but how do you know what to call in? I’ve searched for a menu but no luck.
Okay, let’s get to the real issues here. What is the adress and is it still open?
