The Richmond Neuter Project has 33 appointments available for Oct.28-30. The Project is still first come, first serve and they are looking for pit bulls and pit mixes in area north of R Street. Download the flier for more info!
Isn’t he cute…A face only a mother could love.
What a great offer but why only North of R Street though? They are all over Church Hill – or at least they were. Pit Bulls get a bum rap and can make great pets. I worked with a woman that had a large female living in her house who was just a loving “kissy” dog and a male in a protected shed in the back yard. She could not put the two together. I believe the owner’s so called “training” and lack of love and attention makes them meaner than their inbred nature. I also have friends that raised Wolves and Wolf hybrids and have had no issues other than trying to get out of the yard.
One of my dogs is a French Bulldog that looks like a mini pit and she is playful and loving but has massive muscles that can do some damage if provoked. We call her our cinderblock with feet 🙂
Hi Steven,
We did a phase 1 of the Project in July and focused on 22nd to 36th from E Broad out. We got 33 dogs spayed or neutered. We pick a focus area that we know needs the services so we can concentrate our efforts and make a big push. Posters went up last weekend in the target area, more posters will go up this weekend, and then we will go door-to-door with flyers and door hangers, if we still have appointments available. We can’t cover the entire city at once, so we focus on specific areas. Phase 3 will probably be the Jeff Davis corridor.
You are correct that pit bulls are wonderful companion animals but they do not do well in isolation, as you saw with your neighbor’s male pit. I have one myself and I adore her. ALL dogs are better pets if they are spayed or neutered, not just pit bulls.
If you know anyone that needs the service, please send them our way!
