Hill Cafe’s rack of lamb is “really effing good”
01/02/2009 8:05 PM by John M
Richmond foodblog i wish i could cook visits the Hill Cafe and raves about the rack of lamb and the folks all around:
My god, there were six pieces, not like the 2 you get at Can Can for twice the price, a delish pile of redskin-mashed potatoes and perfectly crisp broccoletti all doused in rosemary beurre blanc. Holy shit, it was really effing good. The lamb was more rare than medium rare but it wasn’t the least bit gamey. If my arteries could have handled another sea of butter, I wish we would have ordered two.

“Holy shit, it was really effing good” is the best you can come up with? That’s got to be the most poorly written review I’ve ever seen, and as a headline it’s just embarrassing.
Good for him. I’m still not going back to that dump–ever!
Why do you consider the HC a dump?
I’m not going to go over that again. There is another Hill Cafe thread started a little while back that pretty much covered the blog reader’s opinions from start to finish. Try searching for it to get the full scoop.
The Hill cafe use to be one of the TOP places to eat at one time… even beating out Millie’s. But there has been no accolades in years. The menu is stagnant. When we first started visiting the Hill they had daily and weekly specials not on the menu. More variety and a little more Continental. Now a new restaurant is coming to town only 2 blocks away and I am sure that will also hurt business. I haven’t been to the Hill café for months and it isn’t for lack of time or money (have several gift cards) but because it has become a blasé place to eat.
Look how long ago this rack of lamb post was made, going on 4-years ago!
