People’s Assembly yesterday at Asbury
01/11/2009 9:14 AM by John M
Community activists and organizers met yesterday at Asbury United Methodist Church for a People’s Assembly (PDF) to discuss a state-wide agenda of concerns. Via the RTD:
About 75 to 100 people concerned about workers’ rights, immigration, education, U.S. involvement in war, health care and prisoners’ rights met for the daylong event at Asbury United Methodist Church in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood.

“The General Assembly, and the government in general, needs to be accountable to the people, the taxpayers and the people who pay their paychecks,” said Breanne Armbrust of Richmond Jobs with Justice. Armbrust’s group, along with the Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality, organized yesterday’s meeting.
Prisoner rights? What about rights of prisoner victims? Tehy are not prisoners because of helping little old ladies across busy streets … unless they were trying to steal the old ladies purses.
Enough with the Defenders of Freedom, Justice and Equality bull crap, how about justice and equality for victims and their families?
Although I would put it much differently, Bud does have a point. I would say ‘health care and rights for ALL citizens’.
